Fresh Fig Salad for Mid Autumn Festival and Ma'a El Salama #SundayFunday

Fresh figs are available here in Michigan for just a short while in early fall.  I always buy a case (or two) but they have a very short shelf life so you need to use them quickly.  This amazing salad is a great start to a fig-centric feast.

Fall is in the Air #Winophiles

Fall is a very busy time of year.  Folks are getting back to school and work, sports and after-curricular events are scheduled each night of the week. In this household, we are pulling out the fall decor, closing up the pool, and getting back to choir, as well as preparing to leave in 10 days for our trip to Egypt.

I just finished reading our Lit Happens Selection for September.  This book did, of course, inspire a recipe but more than that it inspired me to be grateful for the relationship that I had with my mother and left me wishing that I could spend another day with her.

Lemon Pepper Potato Wedges and A Cookbook Review

The Angel Face gave me a Cookbook for my birthday.  She knows me well.  She laughs at me because no matter what topic she brings up I turn it into a food conversation.

Cooking from the Spirit

Chocolate Fig Clafoutis and the Weekly Menu

Fall has been in the air here in Michigan.  It has been cooling down in the evenings, begging us to put on hoodies, light a campfire, and make S'Mores.  Daytime temps are still beautiful with tons of sunshine so I am happy for the season to commence.

Marinated Venison Steaks #SundayFunday

Did you know that tomorrow is National Navajo Code Talkers Day?  I didn't either until my friend, Amy of Amy's Cooking Adventures, named it as the theme for this week's Sunday Funday.

Navajo Code Talkers Day, celebrated every year on August 14, is a day that holds great importance in the history of the U.S. This is because the day recognizes the contributions of Navajo marines during World War II. Yes, Navajo marines encoded and transmitted messages using a complex Navajo language-based code during a time when secret communication was essential to win a war. And guess what? The code was never broken by Japanese forces in the Pacific and proved to be of great assistance to the U.S. Marines. On this day, celebrate the great American heroes and their service to the nation!  (source: National Today)

Seychellois Pwason Griye #EattheWorld

From the Island of Seychelles comes a delicious dish, normally made with a whole fish, typically Red Snapper.
