S is for Semitas

When I visited Anthony's Key in Roatan, Honduras, we started each morning with a wonderful breakfast.  Staff would greet us with a smile, a hot cup of coffee, a fresh fruit plate, and a bread basket filled to the hilt with donuts, breads, and pastries.

Semitas

My favorite was Semitas, the Honduran sweet bread with a crunchy cookie-like topping.  I had one each morning, and a couple of mornings I had two!!

Roast Chicken Shwarma #BakingBloggers

This delicious, tender, flavorful chicken Shwarma only takes 45 minutes in the oven before you are enjoying it for dinner.

Chicken Shwarma is normally cooked on a grill or rotisserie but you can enjoy it any time of the year by roasting it in your oven during the cold winter months.

Wentelteefjes and a Book Review

I was inspired to make this Dutch Style French Toast after reading the novel The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert.

This wonderful, comforting breakfast was spoken of in the last section of this novel when our protagonist returned to her mother's homeland in Denmark.

This Dutch French Toast is soaked in a flavored custard for half an hour before being pan fried in a generous amount of butter and sprinkled with with a powdered sugar/cinnamon mixture.

Moroccan Lentil Soup #SoupSaturdaySwappers

This delicious spiced dish is actually more like a stew than a soup.  I guess I could have added more broth after the lentils were done cooking but I kind of liked how hearty and filling it turned out.

This meatless dish is chock full of lentils and vegetables and then topped with a healthy dose of Greek yogurt to finish it off.  Welcome to Soup Saturday Swappers.......

Khinkali (Georgian Meat Dumplings) #EattheWorld

These delicious little pockets are filled with a soupy meat mixture. You hold onto the "handle" at the top. Bite into the bottom and slurp out the "soup" before biting off the dumpling and meat.  You set the thick knob that you are holding aside and grab another before they are all gone.

Every country has it's own version of Dumplings, these originate from Georgia.  Join us as we Eat the World......
