Steakhouse Burrito

This is my second recipe for this fun event celebrating the Summer Olympic Games.......

Welcome to #SummerGamesWeek 2021 hosted by Amy from House of Nash Eats!  We are celebrating the start of the Tokyo Games with over 50 recipes representing more than 25 countries competing in the upcoming Summer Games! Come join me and my fellow Summer Games Week bloggers as we bring you recipes from appetizers to drinks to entrées and desserts!

I didn't join in the fun yesterday but many others did.  You can find the recipes each day this week by searching #SummerGamesWeek.

I am happy to be back today with another recipe that unites two countries participating in the Summer Olympic Games being held in Tokyo this year.  I took the iconic American Steakhouse that is so popular in the USA and turned it into a Burrito in a nod to our neighbors in Mexico.

Let's see what the others are sharing today.......

Season your steak and put it on the grill.  While it is cooking, put together the salad ingredients.  When the steak is cooked to your level of desired temperature, let it rest while you place the tortillas on the grill to warm.  Wrap the tortillas in a towel to keep warm while you slice the steak.

Top the steak with 1/4 of the salad, then sprinkle with blue cheese crumbles, if desired.  I love blue cheese and used this for my burrito, however I used shredded cheddar jack for my husband's burrito.

This is a wonderful melding of cultures which is the thing that I love most about the Olympic Games.  All the people of the world unite for one common cause.  I think the Olympic Games help us to recognize that people are the same regardless of the country in which they were born.  We all have dreams, hopes and aspirations that can come true with dedication and hard work.  It helps remind us that we can all "Go for the Gold".

    Steakhouse Burrito

Grilled Sirloin Steak placed onto a flour tortilla and topped with a steakhouse salad before being rolled up burrito style.
Prep time: 10 MinCook time: 10 MinTotal time: 20 Min

    • 4 thick strips bacon, diced
    • 2 c. shredded Romaine lettuce
    • 1 c. cherry tomatoes, halved
    • 1/4 c. purchased dressing
    • 8 T. cheese of choice
    • 1 (2 lb.) sirloin steak
    • Montreal Steak Seasoning, to taste
    • 4 burrito size flour tortillas

    1. Cook the diced bacon until crisp. Remove to a paper towel lined plate to drain.  Set aside.
    2. Season the steak with Montreal Steak Seasoning and let come to room temperature.
    3. Grill steak over high heat, about 4 minutes per side, or until desired temperature, flipping once. Remove to a cutting board and tent with foil to rest.
    4. Place the tortillas on the grill and cook about 30 seconds per side, until warmed and light grill marks appear.  Wrap in a towel to keep warm.
    5. Toss the romaine, reserved bacon, tomatoes and dressing together in a bowl.
    6. Slice the steak into thin strips.  Place the 4 tortillas onto plates.  Divide the steak between the tortillas, then top each with 1/4 of the salad and sprinkle with 2 Tablespoons of cheese.  Wrap the burritos to enclose and cut in half on the diagonal to serve.
