The Life List Round-Up #MoviesandMunchies

I chose the Netflix movie The Life List as our Movies and Munchies film this month.  It is a very touching movie that had me laughing one moment and crying the next.

I watched it on a whim and liked it so much that I mentioned it on our group page.  Then I watched it again with Foodie Glasses on and decided there was enough inspiration to have the others join in watching.

It is the story of Alexandra Rose (Sofia Carson), a young woman who has given up on all her dreams and aspirations and is settling for what she feels life has to offer.  Her mother (Connie Britton) is dying, and her last wish is to help Alex find herself.

Let's take a look at what the others thought of the movie and what they were inspired to create in the kitchen.......

My friend Camilla of Culinary Cam was the first to share a recipe inspired by this movie saying.....

I went for something that doesn't actually appear in the movie: Rose Matcha Pistachio Pull-Me-Up. Instead of coffee and chocolate as the main flavors, I went for matcha, pistachio, and rose. Rami only mentioned pistachio and rose; I added the matcha to take the place of espresso. But because it's not what you picture when you hear 'Tiramisù' I opted for the literal translation of the dish: tira (pull) mi (me) su (up) for my title. Also, fittingly, in The Life List the list serves as a pick-me-up, cheer-me-up, pull-me-up for the main character Alexandra Rose. Get the third inspiration?!

What a fun explanation of the inspiration that led to this fascinating, delicious-looking Rose Matcha Pistachio Pull-Me-Up

Pull Me Up

I posted my recipe next.  I was inspired by a scene at the very beginning of the film, when the family dreaded Alex bringing her famous Bean Salad to the baby shower.

Bean Salad

This Marinated Bean Salad was not met with dread.  It is bright, colorful, and quick to put together. We enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed the film.

Amy of Amy's Cooking Adventures posted these gorgeous Spring Chocolate Cupcakes decorated with sprinkles and roses.

Cupcakes

As providence would have it Amy watched this movie right after making these muffins for a baby shower.  Amy says .......

"There are not a ton of foodie moments in the movie, other than a baby shower in the beginning - so it was perfect that I already had baby shower cupcakes prepared!"

These cupcakes would have been very well received at the baby shower shown at the beginning of the film.

Bean Salad

Debra of Eliot's Eats was also inspired to make a Bean Salad saying.....

"I had to go with a bean salad. It was comical in the film’s opening. How many of us are known for bringing the same dish to every family occasion? How many of us think our families love this recipe? Needless to say, Alex’s family jokes behind her back about her bean salad."

This Spring Bean Salad is perfect for a baby shower, picnic, or potluck.  It is going on my list for gatherings this summer.

The Taste of Things

Our May movie, chosen by Debra of Eliot's Eats is the Taste of Things.  It is a French Film streaming on Hulu and available on Amazon Prime.  If you would like to join in the fun, leave a comment, and I will invite you to join our Facebook page.

**** A Late Addition to our roundup is Terri of Our Good Life.  Terri was struck by the correlation of food and relationships in the film.  She shared a story about food and love in her own household saying......

In our family, food is almost always an expression of love. My husband loves to cook. He knows my favorites and tries to make something a bit over-the-top a few times a month. In April, this was my favorite "act of love:" homemade meatballs, meat sauce and pasta.

I agree with Terri's husband and I try to show my love for others through food too.  I hope my attempts are as wonderful as this comforting plate of Pasta with Meatballs.
