It's time for the Cake Slice Bakers........

Each month The Cake Slice Bakers are offered a selection of cakes from the current book we are baking through. This year it is Zoë Bakes Cakes by Zoē François. We each choose one cake to bake, and then on the 20th - never before - we all post about our cake on our blogs. There are a few rules that we follow, but the most important ones are to have fun and enjoy baking & eating cakes!

Follow our Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest pages where you can find all of our cakes, as well as inspiration for many other cakes. You can also click on the links below to take you to each of our cakes. If you have a blog and are interested in joining The Cake Slice Bakers and baking along with us, please send an email to thecakeslicebakers at gmail dot com for more details.

The Cake Slice Bakers also have a new Facebook group called The Cake Slice Bakers and Friends. This group is perfect for those who do not have a blog but want to join in the fun and bake through this book.

It is a new year and a new book - Zoë Bakes Cakes - and our choices for March 2022 were ~

Banana Bread with Nutella Swirl

I chose this selection because I liked the fact that the recipe made 2 loaves.  I served one loaf up for dessert when our daughter Nicole and son in law Pierre came for dinner.  The second loaf got wrapped up to be donated as a dessert for our Parish Fish Fry.

The breads turnedout lovely and they tasted as good as they looked.  Nicole took the remainders of the dessert loaf home with her and I was proud to place the second loaf on the dessert table at church.

The next time you have some over ripe bananas on the counter, give your family a treat and make up this delicious recipe.  They will be very grateful.......

  • 4 large over ripe bananas
  • 1 c. brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1/2 c. half and half
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 t. vanilla
  • 3 1/3 c. flour
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 t. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 t. kosher salt
  • 1/2 c. nutella

Instructions

  1. Place bananas, brown sugar, butter, eggs, cream and vanilla in a large bowl and mix until well combined.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add to the banana mixture and stir until just combined and smooth.
  3. Heat the Nutella in the microwave for about 20 seconds to soften
  4. Divide half of the batter between two 8x4" loaf pans that have been treated with baking spray. Drizzle with half of the Nutella and swirl with a knife.
  5. Divide remaining batter and cover the batter in each loaf pan. Top each with remaining Nutella and swirl it through the batter.
  6. Bake in a preheated 350* oven for about 50 minutes, until a skewer inserted in the center removes cleanly. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before turning onto a wire rack to cool completely.
