This movie is a fun take on the family Christmas. Everett Stone brings his girlfriend home to meet his family. Everett comes from a down to earth, easy going family and has made it big on Wall Street. His girlfriend ( played by Sarah Jessica Parker) is uptight, anxiety ridden and very conservative.
Everett's family is very close knit and more on the liberal side. Mom is dying and scared but hasn't shared this news with her family yet and this Christmas gathering is very important to her. The siblings are are close knit and combative as is often found in families, especially during the holidays. None of them seem in the least interested in having a relationship with Everett's girlfriend, as they decided the moment they walked in the door, that they weren't right for each other except for Ben, the second son, who often also feels excluded by the family.
There is tons of food inspiration in this film but I found mine during a conversation taking place around the kitchen island where there are two large bowls, one filled with popcorn and one filled with cranberries, obviously waiting to be strung together for the tree.
This is a fun, heartwarming Christmas movie that can become a tradition if you so choose. I enjoyed it very much. It reminded me of my own eclectic, dysfunctional, large family who agree on nearly nothing but love each other unconditionally.

Cranberry Popcorn
Popcorn, dried cranberries, slivered almonds and pecan halves tossed in a glaze of honey and maple. A beautiful festive snack to keep on hand during the holidays.

Ingredients
- 8 c. popped popcorn
- 3/4 c. dried cranberries
- 1/4 c. slivered almonds
- 1/4 c. pecan halves
- 1/4 c. honey
- 3 T. butter
- 2 T. Maple syrup
- 1/4 t. almond extract
Instructions
- Combine the popcorn, cranberries, almonds and pecans in a 9x13" baking dish.
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the honey, butter, and syrup. Cook and stir until heated through and combined. Stir in the almond extract.
- Drizzle over the popcorn mixture and toss to coat.
- Bake in a preheated 325* oven for 15 minutes, tossing every 5 minutes. Cool on a wire rack stirring occasionally. When coated and cooled store in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks.
