These delightful appetizers combine Asian Flavors with French Pastry (well, okay crescent rolls but we'll pretend it's puff pastry). I paired it with a Spanish Sparkling Wine and it was a perfect match.
Sue of Palatable Pastime has invited us each month of 2021 to join her in sharing a baked dish by theme or ingredient. It has been a fun year and I hate to see it end. Our group is remaining intact but instead of posting baked items each second Monday of the month we will now be posting recipes for you on the first and last Saturdays of each month. We will no longer have themes but you can be sure that we will still be sharing some amazing recipes.
So let's take a look at the appetizers everyone brought to the last event of the year.........

This recipe, from Pillsbury, makes 16 appetizer portions that are large enough to be a nice first course at a dinner party. My husband and I made dinner of these. Three of them was plenty to fill me up and four was good for him, leaving us more to snack on and enjoy for lunch the following day.
I liked the twist of using dough from crescent sheets to hold the shrimp and pork mixture instead of just spooning it onto the letttuce cups. It kept the ingredients intact and it gave you the great crescent roll flavor.

Shrimp and Pork Roll Lettuce Cups
These delightful appetizers combine Asian Flavors with French Pastry (well, okay crescent rolls but we'll pretend it's puff pastry).
Prep time: 20 MinCook time: 15 MinTotal time: 35 Min
Ingredients
- 3 scallions, white and light green parts, sliced and divided
- 1/2 lb. ground pork
- 9 large raw shrimp, peeled, deveined, tail removed, chopped
- 2 T. oyster sauce, divided
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 can refrigerated crescent dough sheet
- 16 butter lettuce cups
- 1 c. shredded red cabbage
- Sweet and sour sauce
Instructions
- Thinly slice the scallions, seperating the white and green parts.
- Place pork in a skillet over medium high heat. Season with salt and pepper and cook until crumbly and no longer pink. Drain and return to skillet and stovetop. Add the white parts of the scallions and the chopped shrimp. Stir in 1 Tablespoon of the oyster sauce and cook, stirring frequently, until shrimp is pink. Remove from heat.
- Unroll dough and press or roll into a 9x12" rectangle. Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 4 rows by 4 rows making 16 rectangles. Divide the shrimp and pork mixture between the 16 small rectangles (about a Tablespoon for each) and then roll them tightly and seal the ends.
- Place seam side down onto a baking sheet that has been covered with parchment or a silicone mat and brush with the remaining 1 Tablespoon of oyster sauce.
- Bake in a preheated 375* oven for about 15 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
- Place shredded cabbage onto each lettuce cup, place a roll onto each and sprinkle with the green parts of the scallion.
- Serve with sweet and sour sauce.
