I make a lot of Apple Pies and I love trying new versions but this pie, that I first made as a young bride in 1974 and first shared with you on this blog in September of 2013 when this blog was first born, is the one to which I always return.
This pie is my eldest daughter's birthday pie each and every year and the pie most requested by my family. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
In 2024 I shared a recipe for Almond Chicken. Last year, I shared a recipe for Apples and Greens with an Apple Cider Vinaigrette. Please join us every other week as we make our way through the alphabet.

Apple Crumb Pie
An assortment of apples tossed with fragrant, warm spices, layered in a tender crust and topped with a tasty crumb. This will become your new go-to Apple Pie.
Prep time: 10 MinCook time: 40 MinTotal time: 50 Min
Ingredients
Pie
- 1 Pie Crust
- 5 cups of Apples, cored, peeled and cut into 8ths. (I use 3 different types of apples, 2 of each usually equals 5 cups).
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 t. cinnamon
Crumb Topping
- 3/4 c. flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 6 T. butter, cut into tablespoon portions
Instructions
- Place the crust into deep dish pie pan.
- Toss the apples with cinnamon and sugar. Pour into crust.
- Pulse flour, sugar and butter in food processor until crumbly.
- Pour over the apples and bake in a preheated 400* oven for 35-40 min or until the apples are tender. If the topping is getting too brown you can cover with foil while it finishes baking.

Apple is my husband's favorite pie, and I've never done it with a crumb topping before, it'll definitely be a hit here!
ReplyDeleteI love that your daughter wants this for her birthday every year! It sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen.
DeleteWe decided last year that crumb topped pies were the way to go. (Especially since my M-I-L hates pie crust! *gasp*) LOL
ReplyDeleteWe love crumb toppings on just about everything here.
DeleteSome recipes are always family favourites like your apple crumb pie. Doesn't matter how many newer versions of pies come out as time goes by.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Mayuri
DeleteThe best recipes are the ones that have stood the test of time, like this fabulous apple pie! I can see why it's a family favorite.
