I finished the 11th book of the Gamache Series, The Nature of the Beast. This novel inspired me to create this fun, seasonal salsa featuring apples and avocados.
This novel takes place in Three Pines during the Fall months. Apples are mentioned in the first chapter and numerous times throughout the story.
This novel finds Gamache retired and living full-time in Three Pines. He is enjoying breakfast in the local cafe when a young boy comes in telling stories of a "huge" gun that he had found. This boy is known for having a vivid imagination and the townsfolk ignore the story. Gamache gives the boy a ride home instead of going with him into the woods to see the gun.
When the young boy is killed in an apparent accident, Gamache feels guilty for not lending more credence to his story and delves into the investigation discovering that it wasn't an accident at all.
As in all the Gamache series, the townspeople play a large part in the story. At one point they all gather at Clara's house, per usual, and eat an Apple Salsa dressed in honey and lime. This was the inspiration for today's recipe.
The narrator who I have been listening to through this series passed away and was replaced by another in this book. It took me a minute, but I did end up liking him.
We are closing the pool on Sunday. Frank had surgery on his hand so two of our son-in-laws are coming over to help. I will serve them dinner after the pool is closed. On Thursday night we see the second of our Broadway in Detroit series, Some Like It Hot. We will go to dinner before the show. Friday we are going to see Ain't Too Proud at the Fox Theater but I think we will have an early dinner at home before we leave.
Other than that it is just a normal week around here. Walks, Exercise Classes, Dr. Appointments, and Choir. Here is the weekly menu followed by the recipe for this crisp, delicious salsa.
