These fun little semi-homemade Pop-Tarts are a perfect surprise for your little Goblins as Halloween approaches.
October is here...A chill is in the air; the leaves are changing, and neighborhoods are being decked out for the first holiday of the season. I have already started celebrating the holidays; my house is decorated for Halloween, and Halloween Treats Week starts tomorrow, but today we are celebrating Pop-Tarts with the Sunday Funday Bloggers...
Sneha of Sneha's Recipe is hosting today's Sunday Funday event and asked us to share Sweet or Savory Pop-Tarts. Pop-Tarts is a brand name for hand pies that became popular during the convenience-food era of the 1960s.
Hand pies were popular long before that, however. We called them turnovers, pasties, empanadas, and samosas. Let's take a look at what the group is sharing today........

I decided to make these easy, semi-homemade Pop-Tarts by using a ghost cookie cutter on refrigerated pie crusts and filling them with strawberry jam.
Yield: 6 hand pies

Ghostly Pop Tarts
These fun, semi-homemade Pop-Tarts make a perfect surprise for your little Goblins as Halloween approaches.
Prep time: 5 MinCook time: 20 MinInactive time: 30 MinTotal time: 55 Min
Ingredients
- 1 pkg. refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
- 6 T. jam of choice (I used strawberry)
- 1 egg + 1/2 T. water
- 1/2 c. powdered sugar
- 1 T. light cream
Instructions
- Using a ghost-shaped cookie cutter, cut 12 ghost shapes from the crusts.
- Place 6 ghosts on a parchment- or silicone-lined baking sheet.
- Place a Tablespoon of jam onto the center of each ghost and spread it slightly, leaving a 1/4" border at the edges.
- Place a second ghost on top of each and use a fork to crimp along the edges.
- Whisk together the egg and water. Brush onto each ghost and bake in a preheated 350* oven for about 20 minutes, until golden brown.
- Remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whisk together the powdered sugar and cream. Using an offset spatula, cover each ghost with the glaze and allow to harden before serving.
