Memphis Style BBQ Sauce #MoviesandMunchies

This amazing vinegar based barbecue sauce is the perfect condiment, glaze or addition to your pulled pork, pulled chicken, or Memphis style ribs.  I served it up with pulled pork that had cooked to perfection on the smoker.

Pulled Pork Sandwich with BBQ Sauce

I was inspired to change up my BBQ sauce after watching Uncorked......
Uncorked
Debra of Eliot's Eats is hosting our Movies and Munchies group this month and invited us all to join her in watching Uncorked, a Netflix film based on a true story about a Memphis man who dreams of becoming a master sommelier.

Pulled pork with BBQ Sauce

This movie is jamb packed with food and wine.  I gave up trying to list it all in the first 15 minutes of the movie.  Suffice it to say there was no lack of inspiration in this move where Elijah, a young man working both at his family's bbq joint out of responsibility and a neighborhood wine shop out of passion.

Elijah dreams of becoming a master sommelier, however his father has other ideas and intends for Elijah to carry on and run the restaurant started by his paternal grandfather in Memphis.  It is the story of family responsibility vs following your own heart and dreams.  It is the story of relationships and family interactions.  It is the story of working hard for what you want and striving to make your dreams come true.

I found it especially interesting because I had no idea what was involved in becoming a sommelier, let alone a Master Sommelier.  It is likened to taking the bar exam.  Very few people are able to pass the test the first time through.  It is rigorous and punishing and I quickly understood why there are less than 250 Master Sommeliers in the world.....that amazes me.

This movie starts off with the blare of rap music and I didn't think I was going to care for it but it quickly captivated me and I didn't even notice the music any longer.  I ended up enjoying this movie very much.

I put a pork shoulder on the smoker and invited the neighbors to a pot luck.  Instead of dressing the pork in my normal BBQ Sauce, as I usually do, I made a vinegar based sauce as you would find if you were to visit the BBQ joint owned by Elijah's family.  I put the sauce into a squeeze bottle to allow everyone to add as little or as much as they desired.  Everyone loved it as much as I loved this film.
