Longevity.....Long Life, Durability, Endurance, Vitality. During this month of February when we celebrate Black History Month, Lunar New Year and Valentine Day it is a very good and appropriate word.
The Wine Pairing Weekend gang are celebrating Black History Month by showcasing BIPOC wines and wineries. I have chosen to share Longevity Wines.
Longevity is owned by Phil Long. He and his wife Debra opened the California Winery in Livermore Valley after their hobby of winemaking outgrew their garage. Debra named the Winery Longevity as a play on their last name as well as a tribute to their enduring love.
Phil designed the logo of the heart filled with vines and smaller hearts inspired by the Artisan made glass hearts that he would give to Debra each Valentine's Day.
Longevity was not Debra's, however, and she passed away in 2019, three years after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Phil's son now assists his father with the wine making responsibilities.

- 1 c. chicken broth
- 1/4 c. hoisin sauce
- 2 T. ginger paste
- 4 t. cornstarch
- 1/4 t. crushed red pepper
- freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 t. olive oil
- 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite size pieces
- 1/2 lg Vidalia onion, cut into thin wedges
- 3 large stalks bok choy, sliced
- 1 stalk celery, sliced
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 3 mini sweet bell peppers, sliced into rings
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (8.5 oz) package pre cooked quinoa/brown rice mixture
- 1/2 c. cashews, roughly crushed
Instructions
- Whisk together the chicken broth, hoisin, ginger, cornstarch, crushed red pepper and black pepper. Set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large, oven safe skillet. Add the chicken and cook stirring occasionally until lightly browned. Remove to a plate and set aside.
- Add the onions, bok choy, celery, carrots and sweet peppers to the skillet and cook until vegetables start to soften and bok choy leaves are wilted, 4-5 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for a few moments until fragrant. Add the sauce to the vegetables. Cook and stir for a few minutes, until thick and bubbly. Add the chicken and any accumulated juices and the quinoa/rice mixture. Stir to combine, cover and bake in a preheated 350* oven for half an hour. Remove from oven, sprinkle with the cashews and return, uncovered to oven for 5 minutes longer to brown.

I have never heard of this winery! And I am less than two hours away. Yikes. I will keep an eye out. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNor had I but imagine my delight when I found them in my local grocers. I really enjoyed this wine.
DeleteMmm, this looks delicious! We can't eat cashews in our home due to our son's nut allergies, but this dish does sound like some I have enjoyed in the past. Curious about trying Longevity, too.
ReplyDeleteI think you would enjoy the Longevity David and you could omit the cashews and use chow mein noodles for the crunchy texture.
DeleteHeart healthy for Longevity and Valentine's Day and a love story, too - impressive! I love the look of that chicken and will be saving this recipe.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, Enjoy.
DeleteGorgeous menus !
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of heart healthy meals with these wines! Such a fitting pairing. The garlic chicken skillet sounds like a great recipe too. So cool that you featured this winery and had such nice meals to pair with them!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds Deanna. The Chard was really a very nice pairing with Asian as you saw as well. I really enjoyed these wines.
