A French Martini to help me through The French Dispatch #MoviesandMunchies

The French Martini was not created in France.  It was created in the 1980's in a bar in New York City and called a French Cocktail because it contains Chambord, a raspberry liqueur from France.

I was inspired to have Frank make this Martini while watching our Movies and Munchies film this month......

Sue of Palatable Pastime is hosting this month and invited us to join her in watching The French Dispatch, the 2021 Wes Anderson film with an all star cast which, of course, includes Bill Murray.

The French Dispatch

So.......I was not thrilled.  Folks, hold onto your hats because I'm about to blow your minds; I AM NOT a Wes Anderson fan.  I'm a fan of all the actors that he brings to the screen.  And I did watch and enjoy Sing but, after all, that is animated.

So many movies to his credit....and I dislike almost all of them.  It's not that I don't get it.  It's just that I don't find it funny.  In 2021 we watched Moonrise Kingdom in our FoodnFlix club that has evolved into our current Movies and Munchies club.  I made a TANG cheesecake for that event and spoke in my review of my feelings about Anderson's films.

This film is said to be based on the editor of The New Yorker magazine.  Reporters are sent to France to report on life there and bring that news back to Kansas.  This all star cast each portrays a different reporter with a different by line and the stories they share.

There is very little food in the movie but there is alcohol, cocktails, wine, and beer in nearly every single scene.  About halfway through the movie I started researching French cocktails,  nudged Frank awake and asked him to make me a French Martini.

He did....twice....and it did help me get through this movie.  If you are a Wes Anderson fan you will probably enjoy this film, but make these martinis anyway to sip while you watch.  I promise you will enjoy it at least as much, if not more, than you enjoy this film.

  1. My daughter and her family LOVE Wes Anderson, but my husband is closer to your opinion. A cocktail looks just right for watching -- I liked The French Dispatch, but it would have been good with that drink.
