Maple Marinara Sauce #Movies&Munchies

Homemade Marinara sweetened with just a touch of Pure Maple Syrup slow cooked in the crockpot.  I added Meatballs and served it over Spaghetti inspired by the movie Elf.

I am hosting Movies & Munchies this month and invited the others to join me in watching the Christmas Classic, Elf.

Is there anyone out there that hasn't seen the movie Elf?  Is there anyone out there that doesn't love the movie Elf?  It ranks right up there with It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street as one of my favorite Christmas movies.

I watch it every year.  Last year our local theater put on the Musical and the whole family went to see it.  It was fantastic.  This past Sunday I joined  some of our Dive Family to see the Broadway version of Elf, the Musical playing downtown Detroit at the Fox Theater.  Such a fun time was had by all.

Just in case you haven't had the opportunity to see it, this movie follows Buddy, a human who was raised on the North Pole by elves as he travels to New York City to meet his biological father.  Buddy has spent the first 30 years of his life surrounded by love, kindness, goodness and joy.  You can imagine the culture shock upon arriving in New York City during the busiest time of year.

Buddy does meet up with his biological father who had no idea that he existed.  He takes Buddy to have DNA completed and learns that he is, in fact, Buddy's father and takes Buddy home to meet his wife and other son who is in his early teenage years.

The first "family" dinner is spaghetti which Buddy smothers in maple syrup.  Buddy loves maple syrup and thinks it is one of the basic food groups.

Maple Marinara

I wanted to make Spaghetti as it was Buddy's first dinner with his human family.  I always add a little sugar in my Marinara Sauce as I do with this 20 Minute Marinara or as I do when canning my Farmstand Marinara.  I decided to sweeten this Marinara with Maple Syrup instead of sugar in a nod to Buddy.  I think he would approve and then I think he would pour on the rest of the bottle of syrup.
