We had a very nice Thanksgiving with a large gathering of Family and Friends. It was a festive, casual affair filled with love and laughter. And some tears....for those we love who could not share the day with us due to work, distance, or other commitments and for those who are watching down from Heaven whom we miss more during the holidays, it seems.
The holidays are always bittersweet as you reminisce about days of yore and create new memories that will be shared long after you are no longer present except in spirit.
I asked the members of our
Lit Happens Book Club to join me in reading The Mayflower, a historical account of her journey from England to the New World. It tells of the voyage, the landing, and the trials and tribulations of starting anew. It ends with the First Thanksgiving Feast that continues until this day.
I was surprised by how much I didn't know about the Mayflower and her passengers. It's a quick, easy read and worthwhile if you are a history buff.
I will be sharing this review over at
Foodies Read. Stop by and see what the other foodies are reading this month.
This week is all about leftovers. Tonight, we are having
Turkey Frame Soup. Tomorrow, we will have
Turkey Pot Pie. I am meeting Amy, Sharon, and Cathy at Youngblood Vineyards for a grapevine wreath-making class on Sunday. We will have dinner there. The guys are on their own.
Cathy, Sharon, and I are meeting for lunch on Monday and then have an appointment with our travel agent to finalize our plans for Italy in September. Then life returns to normal and the leftovers should be pretty much gone.
Well normal for this time of year.....the decorating and shopping will commence. But no shopping today. Today, the Angel Face and I are meeting with Amy to walk the trails instead of the aisles, but before we head out I want to share the Weekly Menu.
