Our Movies & Munchies film for November was Hannah and Her Sisters, A Woody Allen film released in 1986, starring Mia Farrow, Dianne Wiest, and Barbara Hershey.
I had never watched this film before. I was never much of a Woody Allen fan. Watching this film now reminded me of why.
The movie follows 3 sisters over 3 successive Thanksgivings. Hannah (Mia Farrow) always hosts these dinners because her sisters are too busy taking advantage of her and stabbing her in the back to find time to actually do something for her.
The younger sister, Lee (Barbara Hershey) is in a relationship with a man who never leaves their apartment and starts having an affair with Hannah's husband (Michael Caine). Lee (Dianne Wiest) is an addict who decides to start a catering business, expecting Hannah to foot the startup costs.
I wanted to reach through the screen and slap all of them. The only good thing about this film was that it took place at Thanksgiving, and there was a catering gig, so plenty of food inspiration.
I waited until after Thanksgiving to make my recipe. One of the foods Lee served while catering was stroganoff. I decided to use up some of my leftovers to make a turkey stroganoff. It was much better than the film.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ours was an amazing gathering of family and friends. Our exchange student from Denmark and his family are here for the holidays, so there was a lot of conversation and laughter as we all caught up with each other's lives.
Yesterday we enjoyed this Turkey Stroganoff for lunch and then headed to the zoo for Wild Lights. This weekend, we are baking cookies and putting up the tree so they can enjoy it before they leave us on Friday.
Tonight, Dian, his family, Amy, and Doug are all going to Jessica's for dinner. We were invited, but have decided to stay home and recuperate as we have a busy week planned, with an outing to Great Lakes Crossing, where the kids can play with Peppa Pig, visit Legoland, and visit the Aquarium. We will take them to the Rainforest Cafe for dinner while there.
They also would like to visit the Science Center downtown. On Thursday, Marissa and her boyfriend are going to Vegas, and we will be taking them to the airport. I think we will have them go to the Science Center while we do that. We will meet them at Campus Martius after the airport to see the Christmas display and enjoy some hot chocolate at the Cadillac Lounge before checking out the new Gilbert Way Plaza attached to the JL Hudson building. Then we will have dinner at Shields Pizza before we head to the Fisher Theater for Hell's Kitchen, and Dian and family head back home.
On Friday, Dian and Netthe head back to Denmark.
I am sharing a tentative Weekly Menu.....depending on what the week brings.....featuring repurposed leftovers.
