Pumpkin Brownies with a Chocolate Swirl made from scratch and baked up in an adorable Jack-o-Lantern pan.  Brownies have never been so much fun.

This is what happens when Choctoberfest meets up with Fantastical Food Fight.......

Welcome to Day 3 of Choctoberfest where we have been joining Allison of Triple Chocolate Kitchen in sharing all things Chocolate.  Allison works hard on this event each year, rounding up bloggers who want to join in the fun and sponsors who not only provide the bloggers with product but also provide for a great giveaway for one of our readers.

Our sponsors this year are Imperial Sugar and Divine Chocolate.  You can learn more about them by visiting my Welcome Post from Monday.  You will also be able to enter the raffle.  I am hoping one of my readers is the lucky winner this year.

You will find linkups to all the other Choctoberfest recipes at the bottom of this page.

Today is also the third Wednesday of the month.  This is the day that Sarah of Fantastical Sharing of Recipes invites us to join her in a Fantastical Food Fight.  Sarah picks a theme or ingredient and we all make the best recipe that we can hoping to become the reigning champ.

This month Sarah chose Pumpkin.  Let's take a look at what the other contenders made today.......

I knew I wanted to make a cake or brownies of some sort for today's Choctoberfest recipe so imagine how thrilled I was when I found this recipe for Easy Pumpkin Brownies at Love From The Oven.

I amended the recipe just slightly.  I wanted to use this pan that I bought a couple of years ago on a whim and now feel obligated to use each October, so I put the pumpkin half of the brownie mix on the bottom so it would be orange on the top once turned out of the pan.

I placed the chocolate batter on top and then only swirled lightly so that the face of the pumpkin remained orange.   Of course, you can make them in a regular 9x9" pan in which case feel free to swirl to your hearts content.

The spice and pumpkin swirled with the deep chocolate not only looked good it tasted wonderful.  The best of both worlds.

  1. Place butter and chocolate chips in a pot over low heat.  Cook and stir until melted.  Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Beat together the sugar and eggs, turn the mixer to low and stir in the flour and baking powder.  Divide this dough between two bowls.
  3. Pour the chocolate mixture into one of the bowls and stir until combined.
  4. To the second bowl, add the pumpkin, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and oil.  Stir to combine.
  5. Layer the  batters in a 9x9" or comparable pan, that has been treated with baking spray.  Using a knife, swirl the batters together.
