Evidently, what we call a Sheet Pan Dinner, here in the States, is called a Traybake in England. A popular traybake in England includes sausage and plums. I have no idea if this dinner resembles what you would get if you were visiting the UK, but it was well enjoyed here.
I was inspired to make this meal after reading Piglet, our Lit Happens selection for February. Lit Happens is an online book club. Each month, one member chooses a book for us to read and then posts discussion questions for us to chime in on when we are finished. This month, our host is Debra of Eliot's Eats.
Piglet got her nickname from her parents as a child and still introduces herself by it as a grown adult, planning her wedding to a man who kept a huge (though undisclosed) secret from her. That pretty much gives you an idea of the flavor of this book. Piglet, her family, her fiance and this novel are train wrecks. The only person in Piglet's life who seems to have her back and refuses to call her by her nickname is her best friend, Margot, with whom, of course, Piglet cuts off all ties.
Piglet is making dinner after the secret has been revealed. She is upset but swallowing it, as she seems to have been conditioned to do since childhood. She is making a traybake for dinner and forgets about it until the smoke comes billowing out of the oven.
"the tray of charcoal sausages, plums, and red onions shoved to one side"
I had never thought to add plums to a sausage sheet pan dinner. I decided to give it a go. I had Alexa set a 30-minute timer so my dinner wouldn't have the same fate as Piglet's.
