Relaxing with a Cotes du Rhone and Rummikub #Winophiles

This Rue de Perle Cotes du Rhone Villages is an inexpensive wine that you can enjoy regularly.  It pairs very well with food as I spoke about in this article from 2015 but it is also nice enough to sip when relaxing with family playing a game or when cuddled up on the couch with a good book.

The Winophiles are exploring the diverse region of Cotes du Rhone this month......
Jill Barth of L'Occasion is hosting this month and asked us to visit the Cotes du Rhone region of France. This is a great region to explore as there is so much diversity in the wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape the most famous, prestigious and expensive bottles to Cotes du Rhone Villages which are moderately priced and wonderful everyday wines.

Cotes du Rhone Labels

This graphic is from a wonderful article that I found at Wine Folly where they offer a Guide to the Cotes du Rhone Wines.  The bottle I opened is a Cotes du Rhone Villages from Rue de Perle.  It is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre that pours a lovely deep red.  It is fruity with a little bit of spice.

I poured this wine and cuddled up on the couch with the book I was enjoying when the Teen emerged from her bedroom and asked it we wanted to play a game.  Of course, we weren't going to pass up an opportunity for some family time so I brought my wine to the table and sipped while I played.

No food pairing to share this time but I do find the Rue du Perle to pair very nicely with Red Meats.  It also pairs nicely with poultry depending on the preparation.  I have enjoyed bottles of Cotes du Rhone and food pairings that you may be interested in reading. This Domaine de Marcoux Lirac La Lorentine is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape that I paired with a Dingle Pie containing lamb.

I have also enjoyed the wines from Hermitage Chapoutier  that covers over 250 cities in the Rhone area.
Finally, in 2021 I spent an entire month exploring Cotes du Rhone wines and shared my thoughts and food pairings in this article.

Regardless if you are looking for a high end bottle of wine to pair with a fancy dinner party or an inexpensive bottle of wine to enjoy while relaxing at home you are going to want to visit the diverse selection available from the Cotes du Rhone area.

  1. So many Cotes du Rhone choices out there - both fruity and savory. Family game time is always a good pairing!

  2. It's so nice to curl up with a Cotes du Rhone.

  3. Thanks for showing us that food isn't the only pairing for wine!

  4. The Rhône Valley wine region certainly offers a range of price points for every occasion. Cheers to just sipping a glass of Côtes du Rhône.
