Italy, Day 1- Sorrento

We landed in Naples this morning after a full-day flight, having departed Detroit at 10:30 AM on yesterday.

We were met at the airport by Roberto, who drove us into Sorrento and dropped us off at Hotel Capri.  It was too early for check-in in so we dropped our baggage and headed out to explore the area a bit.

friends at coffe shop

Roberto had recommended a coffee shop across the street from the hotel, where we enjoyed cappucinos and croissants for breakfast.

After breakfast, we walked to the town square.  There was a path leading to the beach but none of us had the energy for the walk.

Shopping District

The square is a very crowded, densely populated shopping area. We walked around a bit, but we were all lagging.

friends at a bar

We found a bar with outdoor seating and decided to have a cocktail...or two.....

Pizza

We ordered up some pizzas and another round of cocktails.  By the time we were finished with those it was time to check in at the hotel.  I had a shower and a much-needed nap.

Trattoria

The woman at the front desk recommended La Cantinaccia del Popolo for dinner, so we took a walk over.

We had to wait in this line for about 30 minutes to get a seat in the restaurant.  It was worth every second!!

Food Collage

Frank and I started with a half carafe of the house red and a Caprese Salad.  I enjoyed a Mozzarella Stuffed Ravioli with Speck and Walnuts in a Creamy Gorgonzola Sauce.  Frank ordered the Mozzarella Stuffed Ravioli with the Tomato Sauce.  All the food was scrumptious and the waiter poured us all a complimentary shot of Limoncella before we left.

A night-cap at the Hotel bar and early to bed for us as we have a busy day scheduled tomorrow.  See you then.

  1. If you need something to read on your trip (which I'm sure you packed accordingly), you might grab One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle. Fast read with twists.
