A Dry Lambrusco?! Well, yes please......#ItalianFWT

 I have a confession to make....When Susannah of Avvinare invited us to join her in opening a bottle of Lambrusco this month, I was not very excited.  In fact, I thought about sitting this one out.  

I'm not crazy about sparkling wine, however I do enjoy it on occasion but I seldom, if ever, enjoy a sweet wine and I thought with Lambrusco I would be getting a double whammy.

But National Lambrusco Day is coming up and I love joining this group so I went onto Wine.com and was excited to find a dry Lambrusco.........
It is still a sparkling wine which always makes me think of celebrations and fancy dinners or appetizers.  Lambrusco, however, reminds me of casual, comforting dinners and/or snacks so I made up a pot of spaghetti with Italian Sausage Sauce, poured a glass of this wine and was very pleased with how well of a pairing it was.  I didn't even mind the fizz and finished up the rest of the glass while sitting on the deck with Frank making plans for the bathroom remodel.

I'm glad that I didn't choose to step aside for this event.  The wine was very fruity with no sweetness that I noted, however Frank said he felt like he was drinking grape soda.  That comment made me think of  the Purple cows that I used to enjoy as a kid.  A purple cow is Faygo grape pop blended with vanilla ice cream.   I decided to use the remainder of the wine left in the bottle to make an adult version of this childhood treat.

I know it seems contradictory for me to say I don't like sweet wine and then take a dry wine and make something sweet with it.  However....I love desserts and when Frank mentioned that the fizz and taste of this reminded him of grape soda, it thought this would make a wonderful dessert and I was right.  

So, if like me, you are hesitant to visit Lambrusco rest assurred there are plenty of wines for any palate and one of them is sure to please yours and, if like me, you have fond memories of ice cream blended with grape soda you are going to LOVE this creamy, delicious drink I am sharing with you today.

Adult Purple Cow

Ice Cream blended with sparklilng Lambrusco wine creates a smooth, creamy and delicious dessert style drink.
Prep time: 3 MinTotal time: 3 Min

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. vanilla ice cream
  • 3/4 c. Lambrusco Sparkling Wine

Instructions

  1. Place ice cream and wine into blender and puree until combined and smooth.  Divide between to red wine glasses and serve.

  2. Okay Wendy. As skeptical as you were of Lambrusco, is how I feel about this Adult Purple cow! I once had a terrible experience with someone giving me a Stout beer float, so perhaps I am gun-shy. But if you say it was delicious...
    I did find that I really like dry Lambrusco and it seems like there are so many different styles and even varieties out there!

    1. I think that Purple Cows, Brown Cows (made with root beer) and Boston Coolers (made with Vernors) is definitely a Midwest thing. Not sure I would be gung ho for a stout beer float either LOL.

  3. Oh, my goodness! I have never heard of a Purple Cow and now I think that I must try it. Haha. I'm not big on sweet wines either. But I loved learning more about Lambrusco this month.

  4. Wendy, I get your skepticism and Frank's and I love what you did with the remainder of this wine. I have some sweet Lambrusco left over and some Vanilla ice cream. I'll let you know how it comes out. Thanks for joining this month. Try another version of Lambrusco, maybe a Sorbara. Just saying :) Susannah
