Pulled Pork

Welcome to BBQ Week...........

The Festive Foodies are getting ready for summertime and sharing all of our favorite BBQ Recipes.  Christie of A Kitchen Hoor's Adventures says "If you've seen it at a BBQ then make it and share it".  So we did.....Let's take look at today's recipes.

‌ ‌
I decided to share another recipe for pulled pork.  I have shared several in the past including Pulled Pork for a Crowd made in an electric roaster with liquid smoke and Pulled Pork with a Mango BBQ sauce made in a slow cooker.

Last fall we bought a Traegar Grill which uses wood pellets for smoking and grilling.  I decided to try making pulled pork in the smoker using Hickory Pellets.

Pulled Pork

When it was fully cooked and fork tender, I shredded the meat discarding bones, fat and gristle.  The meat was then ready to be served.  I decided to toss it in BBQ Sauce and serve it as sandwiches.  It was amazingly delicious.

The Festive Foodies are posting BBQ recipes all week long I will be back on Wednesday and Saturday to share some side salads that you can serve along with these sandwiches.

This recipe is perfect for serving up at a BBQ/ Picnic/Pool Party.  It can be made ahead and then reheated in the BBQ sauce for serving up as sandwiches.

Pulled Pork using a Smoker

Pulled Pork using a Smoker

Pork shoulder roast slow cooked on a smoker and basted with apple cider until fork tender. Great for dinner that night and for sandwiches the next day.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (4-5 lb) bone in pork shoulder roast
  • Rib Rub, to taste, your favorite or our recipe
  • 1 c. apple cider

Instructions:

  1. Wash and pat dry the pork roast.  Coat liberally with the rib rub and allow to come to room temperature.
  2. Preheat the smoker to 250*.  Place the seasoned roast directly on the rack and cook for 3-4 hrs, until internal temperature of 160* is reached.
  3. Remove the roast from the smoker and place onto several sheets of aluminum foil, large enough to enclose roast.  Bring up the sides of the foil and pour cider over the roast. Seal the foil around the roast and return to the smoker for another 2 or 3 hrs, until it reaches an internal temperature of 204*.
  4. Remove from grill and allow to rest, in foil, for 45 minutes to an hour.   Pour liquid into a fat separator.  Shred pork, discarding any fat, bones and gristle, placing pork into a bowl.  Pour liquid with fat removed over the shredded pork and serve as is or toss with BBQ Sauce and serve as sandwiches
