Big BBQ Event to Fight Prostate Cancer

Did you know that September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month in Australia?  Well, now you do. One of my blogging buddies, Manuela of Manu's Menu (don't you love that name?) told us all about it.  Manu was born and raised in Italy, married a man from India and moved to Australia where she had 2 daughters and decided she love Australia so much that she became a naturalized Australian citizen and now considers it home.

Manu told us how September is the month set aside in Australia to bring awareness of Prostate Cancer to the people and one of the things they do is have a Big Aussie Barbie to raise funds used to fight this disease.  Manu thought she would like to help out and decided to ask her food blog community to help.

A lot of us were happy to get involved in such a worthy cause.  We are rounding up some of our favorite BBQ mains, sides, snacks and drinks and sharing them with you.  Take a look at what we all have to offer and make a donation if you are so moved.  We are all linking up with our local or favorite Prostate Cancer Foundation to make it easy for you to choose which, if any, you would like to support.  Thanks for allowing us to raise awareness today.

I am sharing a simple but delicious salad that is sure to be a huge hit at your next BBQ.  This is the perfect time of the year to use up the abundance of tomatoes and basil you find at your local farmer's markets, farm stands or growing in your back yard.  It is also a little nod of thanks to Manu and her Italian heritage for planning and sharing this event.

Caprese Salad

An assortment of Tomatoes ( I used heirloom, grape and cherry) cut to bite size portions
Fresh Mozzarella cheese cut to bite size portions
A generous handful of fresh Basil Leaves, cut chiffonade
High Quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil
High Quality Balsamic Vinegar
Salt and freshly ground Pepper to taste

Combine tomatoes and mozzarella cheese onto a serving platter.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.  Top with the basil chiffonade.  Print Recipe

    1. We missed you Cam but there are only so many hours in the day. Understandable how things slip our minds.
