I found a recipe for Sweet and Salty Peanut Butter Bites at Taste of Home. I decided to make some adaptations and turn them into bars instead of bites. Truth be told, there is a reason they were bites instead of bars. When I went to cut this treat it fell apart. I would have been better off plopping the mixture onto parchment in dollops and letting them set into bites.
So I ended up just putting the whole conglomeration into a bowl and serving them as a snack, much like chex mix. My son in law Doug, who always passes on dessert, grabbed a handful as he walked by and said "I don't know what this stuff is but it is delicious".
He was right and while it wasn't much to look at and not very beautiful it all got scarfed down. The flavors were perfect. There is not much familiar between this dessert and the one found in Taste of Home that inspired it which contained chopped peanut butter cups and a lot more corn syrup. Maybe that corn syrup would have helped the bars stick together.
