Let's Talk about Miracles and an extended Weekly Menu

Well, it has been quite the week.  My regular readers may have noted that there was no Weekly Menu posted last weekend.  I was a little too busy to worry about food.

Girl being strapped into a powered parachute

A week ago last Tuesday on August 11th the Angel Face and her folks joined us for dinner.  After dinner we went to the field so Frank could give our girl a ride in the powered parachute.  Here they are making sure that she is all strapped in securely.
We watched as they started climbing up into the air.  And then we watched in horror as the rear tire hit a high tension power line and flung them 100' to the ground.

Let's talk about the first miracle of the week.  Both my husband and my granddaughter walked away from this wreck.

Our Little Miss was taken to the hospital and checked out thoroughly after which she was released with not even a scratch or a bruise to show for the accident.  That, my friends, is miracle number two.

Frank wasn't quite so lucky.  He had numerous fractures to his spine.  The most concerning, the night of the accident, was the cervical fracture.  Doctor's feared that this fracture might interfere with the vascular system leading to the brain and cause a stroke.  The first night was spent doing xrays, ct scans and more ct scans to see if surgery needed to happen immediately.  Miracle # 3, the fracture was found to be stable, no vascular interruption, a cervical collar would serve to make sure that fracture healed properly.

The following day an MRI was performed finding that his L3 disc was fractured down the center and he would need surgery to prevent it from cracking in half causing paralysis.  Miracle #4 was him walking away from that crash without the fractures turning into breaks.

On Thursday we met with the surgeon who explained the procedure for fusing the L3 to the L2 and L4 using screws and rods.  Frank was taken into surgery and Miracle #5 occurred when the surgeon was reviewing the films and recognized that the T9 disc was even more badly damaged than the L3 and needed immediate attention.

Then Miracle # 6, exactly one week after the day of the crash, here he is at home recuperating.  It is going to be a long, rough road but the surgeon told us we could expect 100% recovery.  Next week the staples will be removed and xrays taken to confirm the neck fracture is mended enough to remove the cervical collar.

Today marks one week from the date of surgery and as I write this post my husband is sitting on the couch next to me reading a magazine and listening to music.  God is so good.....

As life slowly gets back to normal I am getting back on track, starting with my Weekly Menu and shopping list.

The home care nurse is expected tomorrow and appointments will be made for therapists to come to the house as well.  Frank's sister called and said she will be by during the weekend with some homemade chicken soup to help Frank heal.

I expect all of our family to be making their way over during the next week.  Saturday Amy is bringing dinner over and Jessica is bringing a cake so we can celebrate my birthday.  I have so many blessings this birthday for which to be thankful.

So I am sharing my Weekly Menu with you along with my sincere gratitude for all the good thoughts and prayers that have been sent our way.  Prayers work, Miracles happen.  I am a lucky lady.
