Pesto alla Trapanese #MoviesandMunchies

This pesto, originating in Sicily, certainly does not get the attention it deserves.  The Sicilian version of pesto has a fresh tomato base, is full of herbs, and uses almonds instead of pine nuts. It is delicious!!!

I was inspired to make this Pesto after watching Nonna's for our Movies and Munchies group this month......

Orange Blossom Cocktail #Movies and Munchies

This cocktail made with freshly squeezed orange juice,  flavorful gin, and a touch of sweet grenadine syrup is the perfect way to welcome in the Spring.

I asked the other Movies & Munchies group members to join me this month to watch the Christmas Classic, Elf.  I love this movie and we watch it each year.  This year, I was excited to attend Elf, The Musical at the gorgeous Fox Theatre in Detroit

 

Maple Marinara Sauce #Movies&Munchies

Homemade Marinara sweetened with just a touch of Pure Maple Syrup slow cooked in the crockpot.  I added Meatballs and served it over Spaghetti inspired by the movie Elf.

Enchanted Poison Apple Cocktail for Movies & Munchies and the Weekly Menu

An Enchanted mixture of Spiced Rum and Apple Juice with a touch of grenadine for color.  Rimmed with edible gold glitter and garnished with thin slices of apple.  This fun cocktail is perfect for your adult Halloween gathering.

High Steaks Pita on the final Day of Christmas #MoviesandMunchies

Happy Epiphany and Merry Little Christmas.  We will be having a quiet celebration tonight as Frank is still quarantined until Friday.  I will be sharing that with you tomorrow. Today I want to share a movie we watched during this time we were staying home.

I  was very saddened when Heather of All Roads Lead to the Kitchen and brainchild of FoodnFlix contacted the members of our group to let us know that she was going to take a sabbatical from blogging.  

The group had decreased over the years but the core group was still going strong and we loved, loved, loved watching the flix and making the food.

This month I invited our FoodnFlix Club to join me in watching Words on Bathroom Walls and then create a dish inspired by the movie. 

I love this young adult film about a high school senior with mental illness who dreams of being a chef.  It is based on the novel by Julia Walton.  I have that on my tbr list now.  

Grillled Beets with Caramelized Citrus Drizzle #FoodnFlix

This wonderful platter of golden and red baby beets is drizzled with citrus that has been caramelized on the grill, olive oil, sea salt and freshly cracked pepper.

These Polish Dills are fermented rather than pickled.  Pickling means putting food into an acidic brine.  Fermenting gives you that sour flavor without any added acid.  You simply place the food into a brine with some spices and let it work it's magic.

This is the method used to make the pickles in our FoodnFlix selection this month........

Bottle Shock #FoodnFlix

Our FoodnFlix selection this month was the movie Bottle Shock based on the true story of California winery Chateau Montelena winning out over French wines in a blind tasting held in Paris in 1976.

This is the wine and the competition that put California and the USA on the map in regards to winemaking.

Crisp carrots, creamy feta cheese, crunchy pistachios and sweet dried pineapple combine to make a wonderful spring salad.

I was inspired to make this salad after watching Peter Rabbit with the Angel Face.  Perfect because today is also National Carrot Day!!!

Spaghetti ala PS I Love You #FoodnFlix

This easy spaghetti sauce is quick to make using ingredients normally available in the pantry. 

 

It is perfect for those weeks when you find yourself overwhelmed, need to put a family friendly dinner on the table and you find that you are out of the prepared jarred sauce when you go to grab it from the cupboard.

Spirited Away Soboro Don #FoodnFlix

This Japanese Ground Chicken Bowl is slightly sweet and completely delicious.  Rice, chicken, eggs and peas combine to make a perfect bowl that your family is sure to enjoy.

The Simply Irresistible Round Up

I am so happy to have hosted the first month of the year for our Food n Flix group.  I chose the film Simply Irresistible starring Sarah Michele Gellar and Sean Patrick Flannery.  I had not seen this film prior to choosing it but had heard that it was a great Foodie Film.  I had heard correctly.

Tender, sweet crab meat over a mixture of avocado, tomatoes and cucumbers.  Served with crackers or bagel chips this is a wonderful starter or snack.
