Ringing in 2026 on the Sixth Day of Christmas

Happy 6th Day of Christmas and New Year's Eve as we welcome in 2026.   I pray that this coming year brings peace, security, and safety to all those I hold close in my heart.

The Second Day of Christmas and the Weekly Menu

Today is the second day of Christmas,  and we were supposed to go see Annie at our local theater with Amy and Doug.  However, Santa brought me a case of the coughing crud for Christmas, and though I tried to power my way through yesterday, I ended up in bed as soon as we got home at 6;30 pm.

The Weekly Menu including Christmas

I must have blinked because here we are at Christmas Week.  We have spent all month preparing to celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and it still feels like it snuck up on me.

I am pretty much prepared.  I just need to pick up a couple of last-minute stocking stuffers and groceries.  Before I can get those groceries, I need to decide what I'm serving this week....so here we go.....

Tonight we are taking the Angel Face to the Jurassic Experience and then out to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner.  Then she is coming back to spend the night with us.

Christmas Eve is spent at Dan and Rebecca's.  We will sing at Mass on Christmas Morning and then have an open house starting at Noon with Dinner at 3 pm.

On Friday, the First Day of Christmas, we are going to see the Broadway play Shucked at the Fisher Theater at 2 pm and will enjoy dinner out afterward.

A Week of Celebrations and the Weekly Menu

Today is my Mom's birthday.  She is celebrating up in Heaven with all the other family and friends we have lost before we were ready.

Woman

Our mom loved nothing more than a good party.  She was a very social person, and when she wasn't out having fun, she was bringing fun to our household.

Almond Cherry Snowballs #ChristmasCookiesWeek

Each Christmas, we make Mom Klik's Almond Cherry Snowballs.  They are part of my husband's fond Christmas food memories and are now our children's fond Christmas Food memories.  This year, I brought my Angel Face into the act, so it can become a fond Christmas Food memory for her too.

Celebrating the 2nd Day of Christmas with a Warm Cocktail and the Weekly Menu leading up to the New Year #MoviesandMunchies

This warm, spiced cocktail is a classic Holiday drink that dates back to the Colonial days.  There are many different versions of this cocktail but all contain rum, butter, and spices.

Hot Buttered Rum

The type of rum can vary but I prefer using spiced rum.  Some recipes use hot water, as mine does, others use hot cider.

Laufabraud (Icelandic Snowflake Bread) #BreadBakers #EattheWorld

Laufabraud is a Christmas Tradition in Iceland.  An easy flatbread cut much like the paper snowflakes we made in grade school and then fried to a crisp golden brown.

Advent; A Time of Preparation

Advent is the time before Christmas when we prepare for the arrival of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  This preparation takes different forms for each of us.  I try to spend a little more time in prayer, be a little more generous with my time and kindness, share goodwill with others, and, of course, clean, cook, shop, wrap, and entertain.

Here is what's happening on the Farm on the 8th Day of Christmas

Amy and I started the 365-mile hiking challenge for the New Year.  We decided that since we needed to get ready for the AT in the fall we may as well get a tree planted for our efforts.  Today she and I went for a hike on the St. Clair Nature Trail near her house and then we met up with the guys for lunch.

Planning the Weekly Menu for into the New Year and a Book Review on the 4th Day of Christmas

On the 4th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me Four Calling Birds.  These Calling Birds signify the 4 Gospels as written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the New Testament.  This classic Christmas Carol is sometimes believed to have been written in code signifying Christianity when it was forbidden to practice the faith.

This theory, however,  has been debunked, mostly because it is a French Carol written in 1780.  The French Revolution, when Catholicism and all Christian religions were outlawed, didn't occur until 1790.

Pasta to finish up the Leftovers on the 3rd Day of Christmas

Santa brought me pasta attachments for my Kitchen-Aid Mixer this year.  I had fun playing with it on this 3rd Day of Christmas and as a bonus, I used up the leftover shrimp I had in the refrigerator from Christmas Day.
