Baked Ham Slices and Havarti Cheese on Whole Wheat Bread, grilled to a golden brown outside and gooey, creamy inside.
Jolene of Jolene's Recipe Journal is hosting today and asked us to join her in celebrating this food holiday. Let's see what everyone brought to the table.......
One of my favorite things about holiday dinners is leftovers. Easter in this household mean ham and that means a weeks worth of delicious meals with any ham that is left on the bone and then made with the bone itself.
If you are looking for ways to use up your leftover ham, this sandwich is a great start but if you want something more substantial how about Au Gratin Potato and Ham Casserole, Ham and Broccoli Stuffed Potatoes , or Italian White Bean and Ham Soup.
Of course, if you do want a sandwich but don't feel like grilling one you can always use some of that ham to make Ham Salad. I do both and sometimes I just grab a couple of slices and throw in on a leftover dinner roll with some butter and mustard and call it a day.
I decided to share this sandwich today because I had leftover ham and some leftover Havarti slices that I had served with crackers for Easter dinner on Sunday. Monday lunch was an easy choice and I was hungry after having finished up the second and third load of dishes that didn't get completed before I dropped from exhaustion the night before.
It hit the spot. Ham and Havarti are perfect together and I love using Havarti in grilled cheese because not only is it delicious but it melts so nicely.
Ham and Havarti Grilled Cheese Sandwich

- 1-2 slices Havarti Cheese
- 2 slices whole wheat bread
- 1 T. butter
Instructions
- Divide the butter between the bread buttering one side of each.
- Heat a griddle or skillet over medium high heat. When hot, lay the ham onto the griddle and cook for a minute, flip the ham and then lay the buttered side of one slice of bread on the griddle.
- Place the ham slices onto the bread on the griddle and layer the cheese on top. Place the second slice of bread on top with the buttered side up.
- Cook the sandwich for about 4 minutes, until the bottom is golden brown. Flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes until golden brown and cheese is melted.
