Hot Chocolate Cookies with Chocolate Chips

I was inspired to make these cookies after reading The House with a Clock in It's Walls......

The House with a Clock in it's Walls

This fun book is about 9 year old Lewis who is orphaned and sent to live with his Uncle Jonathon.  It takes place in my home state of Michigan.

My real life friend, Amy of Amy's Cooking Adventures, read this book aloud to her boys while driving to Michigan from North Dakota to visit her in-laws, my dear friends, John and Kirsten.  On their way home, they stopped in Marshall, Michigan to see the town and the house that inspired this novel.

Amy invited the members of our Lit Happens Book Club to read the book and join her in discussion. Lit Happens is a facebook group of avid readers who take turns choosing a book and providing questions each month.

There are no requirements that you blog about the books or create a food inspired by the books but I am a food blogger and it is what I do.  I am planning on renting and watching the movie version of this book on Thanksgiving and then my daughter, Amy, who is also part of Lit Happens, me and our spouses are taking a day trip to Marshall the following day.

Hot Chocolate Cookies with Chocolate Chips

This book would make a great Christmas gift for any young readers in your life. Lewis is timid and withdrawn.  He has been overweight his entire life and has been bullied in school.  He is sent to live with his uncle, a man he has never met, after the death of his parents.  All he knows about Uncle Jonathon is that he drinks beer and plays poker, which he thinks is okay because they are Catholic.

He also knows that his uncle is a magician.....but little does he know how much power his uncle and his uncle's dear friend and neighbor, Mrs. Zimmerman have.  He is about to find out when he unwittingly releases an evil spirit from the cemetary.

If you want to find out what happens you will have to read it yourself.  Perhaps with one of these cookies and a cup of hot chocolate which is always what Lewis, Jonathon and Mrs. Zimmerman had whenever they were trying to figure things out.

I'm also linking up to Foodies Read if you want to stop by and see what others are reading this month.

  3. That's an interesting use for a pre-made product! I always make hot cocoa from scratch (though I rarely actually do make it). So I don't have the ingredient for this delicious-sounding cookie.

I hope you are having a pleasant and safe Thanksgiving!
