The Long Way Home is the 10th novel in the Three Pine Series to which I am, apparently, addicted. I can't seem to take a break between these novels, anxious as I am to see what lies in store for Chief Inspector Gamache and the residents of Three Pines.
This book finds Chief Inspector Gamache retired after the horrendous ending of How The Light Gets In. He is very content and happy in his retirement. He has healed physically; if not completely over the PTSD that may never end, when he is approached by his friend Clara who is concerned because she expected her husband, Peter, home after his year of exile but she has not seen nor heard from him.
CI Gamache starts assisting Clara with her search but quickly finds himself comfortably back in charge of the investigation. The ending of this book was not a surprise but it was still sad.
As the story begins, the residents of Three Pines meet for breakfast at the Cafe and CI Gamache orders the Blueberry Crepes.
This was my inspiration for these crepes made with my son Tony's Blueberry Ginger Jam which he calls "Dragon's Blood" for his business, Tony's Sweet Eats. You, of course, can use any blueberry jam you like but this Blueberry Ginger jam is excellent.
Frank had surgery on his hand Wednesday and is healing up nicely; if a little uncomfortably. I am packing and preparing for a Hiking Trip on the AT with Amy. We leave one week from today. I am very excited, not only about the hike but also because our son, Chuck, lives in VA where the hike is takng place and we will get to spend the day before with him.
In the meantime, we still have to eat so I have prepared our Weekly Menu to share with you. What are you eating this week?

- Place the cream cheese and jam into a food processor and puree until smooth. Set aside.
- Brush the bottom of a 6-8" skillet with butter. Add about 1/4 c. of the batter to the pan and swirl to thinly coat the bottom. Cook for a minute or two, until the edges curl away from the pan. Remove to a plate and repeat this step until all the batter is used.
- Divide the cream cheese filling between the crepes placing the filling in the center and rolling the crepes around the filling. Plate seam side down and drizzle with the pie filling.

Those crepes sound and look amazing. Love the combination of blueberries with the warm fragrant ginger.
ReplyDeleteThanks Judee.
DeleteYou're not the only one addicted to the Gamache novels. I took a break after #14, but #15 is waiting for me. Sad ending indeed, though again the book made me want to visit those part of Canada: the descriptions are so intriguing. Blueberry pancakes: perfect! Also, hope the healing continues apace for Frank :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Simona, it really does make you want to make a trip to Quebec and Montreal. It is now on my bucket list.
