The Italian Food Wine and Travel group are heading to Molise, Basilicata and Campania this month as we head up from the toe of the boot this year. I decided to showcase a wine from Campania as Aglianico is easy to source here in Michigan.
I found a bottle of Donnachiara Aglianico from Campania at my local Total Wine store. I was familiar with Donnachiara as I had received samples of their wine many years ago. That was before we had a Total Wine in Michigan but I remembered how lovely those wines were so I went looking for Donnachiara now that we do have a Total Wine near us.
The last Donnachiara wine that I shared was a white wine that I paired with Chayote Squash stuffed with Seafood. It was a very nice pairing so I was excited to open a bottle of red this time around.
I have enjoyed Aglianico wines many times. I shared my tasting notes with you when I paired Aglianico with Pork Ragu, Pizza Montanara, and Vegetarian Lasagna. I opened this bottle of Donnachiara to pair with a Beef Shwarma that I prepared in the Instant Pot.
Having enjoyed Aglianico in the past, I knew that it was heavy enough to stand up to the warm flavors of Beef Shwarma. This bottle of Donnachiara did not dissapoint. It is not a heavy wine but medium bodied and full flavored. It has notes of tobacco and smoke and it made me happy to sip this wine with a warm, flavorful dish that I love.

ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy. I am. I can now do everything that I did before the accident. Not as quickly and not for as long but each day is better.
DeleteSounds absolutely delicious! I think I have a Donnachiara wine, a white, in my wine cellar. Glad to hear you've had good experiences with them!
ReplyDeleteCheers Andrea. I have enjoyed both the white and the red.
DeleteI recently poured a Donnachiara. I didn't even clue into the fact that it was from Campania. Funny. Your Shwarma looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cam. I was very pleased how well it turned out and so quickly in the instant pot.
DeleteThe Shwarma looks wonderful and I can imagine it going very well with the Aglianico!
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin, it was a great pairing.
DeleteI was planning on some Donnachiara this month. Definitely one of the well known estates of the region.
ReplyDeleteYes, and it is easily available here in Michigan which makes me happy.
DeleteIt looks and sounds like a wonderful pairing Wendy! I'm a fan of the Donnachiara wines too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Martin.
