Italy-Day 13, Siena

Siena is a Medieval Town in Tuscany, known for the famous bareback horse race, The Palio di Siena, which occurs each July and August, in the town square, Piazza del Campo.

We took a walking tour of the city as well as a tour of the museum dedicated to the Palio, which has been occurring since Medieval Times.  Siena has 17 historical neighborhoods called contrade, each with it's own animal symbol and colors.  All of these neighborhoods compete in the Palio that takes place in the Piazza del Campo.

After the tour, we had lunch and did some shopping before meeting up with our group to head to Villa San Lucchese, where we spent the next 3 nights.  It was a wonderful hotel, and we enjoyed a scrumptious dinner there.  Unfortunately, I developed a sinus condition and was feeling so poorly that I left dinner early for my room and some sleep.
