Love is in the Air and We are Spicing Things Up with a Cahors Wine paired with an American Steak #Winophiles

February is quite the month.  Coldest month of the year for many of us, which makes us think about snuggling together to stay warm.  Of course, we also celebrate St. Valentine Day which encourages thoughts of love and tenderness.

 Cahors Wine

We celebrate Black History Month here in the USA where we acknowledge and appreciate  of our fellow brothers and sisters who have contributed so much to our American history.  It is American Heart Month and as always hearts are the symbol of love.  The Superbowl is played where we turn out to cheer and show love for our favorite team.

It is February and LOVE is in the air.  So with these thoughts in mind I asked my fellow Winophiles to share what French Wines they break out when they are feeling L'Amour.

Here is what they had to say......

Dinner Plate and Wine

I opened up a bottle of  2016 Cahors from Chateau Lamartine to pair with our Valentine's Day Dinner.  When making a romantic dinner for my husband, I cannot go wrong with steak so our go to wine is always a beef loving red.

Cahors wine is predominantly Malbec.  This means that when you pour a glass you normally get a higher volume of alcohol than you get in other red wines.  Cahors is deep and dark, medium bodied with plum on the nose and spice on the palate.  It LOVES red meats and is the perfect pairing for this steak that marinades in a little spice itself.

Chateau Lamartine was built in 1922 and named after the legend of Martine who was the daughter of a Baron who would sneak off to meet her suitors under an oak tree that became the site of the winery.  The vines on this site date back to the middle ages and the current winemaker/owner Alain Gayraud was born in the Chateau that he took over from his grandparents in 1975.

We are going to gather together for Twitter chat on Saturday, February 19th, at 11 AM ET to talk about the wines that speak of Romance to us.  We would love to have you join us.  You will find us by following #Winophiles.  I look forward to seeing you.
