Pure Comfort~~Roast Chicken, Wild Rice Pilaf and a Glass of Barbaresco Wine #ItalianFWT

Welcome to November and the second of our Three Big B's that we are celebrating over at Italian Food Wine and Travel.  Last month I hosted and we showcased a Brunello which is made with Sangiovese grapes.  Today and next month we are traveling to Piedmont where we will be trying two wines made from Nebbiolo grapes, Barbaresco today and Barolo in December.

Wine

Robin of Crushed Grape Chronicles is hosting this month and invited us all to join her in enjoying a glass of Barbaresco and then meet up with her for Twitter chat on Saturday, November 6, at 11 AM ET to talk about this wine.  Everyone is invited to join in the fun. You will find us by following #ItalianFWT.  Learn more at Robin's Invitation Post and by reading the articles listed below to get an idea of  what we will be talking about.......

Dinner plate with wine

I ordered up a bottle of 2017 Pronotto Barbaresco for this event.  The critical acclaim section of the website for this wine stated that this wine, while ready to drink now, would be better aged a while.  With this in mind, I opened the bottle well before dinner to allow it to breathe before I sipped.

I have enjoyed Nebbiolo before, however that bottle came from Lombardia and I paired it with a local Lombardian dinner of Uccellini-Scappati.  This bottle from Barbaresco was paired with Roast Chicken and a Fall Flavored Wild Rice Pilaf.

This spicy red was a good pairing with the rice, it may have been a little overpowering with the chicken had the rice not been present.  As it was, we thought it was a decent pairing and we enjoyed this bottle and are considering ordering up another to allow to age for a few years.

I hope you can join us for chat on Saturday.....Ciao.

  1. That's the thing about food and wine pairing. It's not always a hit. I know I settle for "peaceful co-existence" sometimes, and that's just fine! Good thing for that Rice Pilaf! Cheers Wendy

  3. It's so interesting how sometimes the addition of the side dish brings everything together. Cheers!

  4. When I saw your title Wendy I wanted to pour a glass (Barbaresco of course), get comfy and hope that you'd bring me a dish of your roast chicken. Seriously, one of my comfort food favorites!

  5. Sometimes I think wines like these should come in 2 packs, one for now and one for later!
