Milanesa is a popular fried steak in Uruguay. Milanesa Napolitana is believed to have become popular after being served at a restaurant called Napoli in Buenos Aires. I followed tradition by serving it with French Fries.
I have never had this dish before. It reminded me of veal or chicken parmesan. Beef cutlets here in the Midwest are called chip steaks for those who, like me, are unaware. The recipe called for slices of deli ham. I used leftover Easter ham. My fresh bread crumbs were made from whole wheat bread as that was what I had on hand. I did not use shredded Mozzarella but, rather slices of fresh Mozzarella.

ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy, they were.
DeleteIn Italy we have 'cotoletta alla milanese' but it's not topped with ham, tomatoes and mozzarella, so maybe that's where the 'Napolitana' comes from ;) . I bet it was delicious, especially with fries on the side!
