Opaline is a young woman in the 1920s. Her father has passed away, and her brother, recently returned home from the war, has arranged a marriage for her to a man of some means who could ease the financial burden on the family. Opaline wants to marry only for love and runs away to escape the dreaded fate.
Opaline finds solace in an old curiosities shop that had been dismantled in Ireland, brought to England and rebuilt. The proprietor has recently passed, and Opaline moves into the shop and sells books along with the curiosities left. Things are going very well, despite Opaline falling for a cad who has left her alone and pregnant. Her landlord is very supportive and helpful and the store is doing exceptionally well. Life is good....until her brother finds her and has her locked away in an insane asyllum.
Martha has escaped from an abusive marriage and finds solace as a housekeeper/companion for an eccentric retired actress. She is in her quarters in the basement of the mansion in which she lives when she notices a person pacing back and forth in front of her window.
Martha meets Henry a professor who is searching for a bookshop that is supposed to be in the lot adjacent to the mansion. When Henry located the bookshop and stepped inside he found himself in an empty lot and the bookshop had disappeared.
The story, like the timeline, travels between Opaline's world and Martha's world until finally they unite as one.
Martha returns to her quarters after a particularly tough day and comforts herself with a cup of Nutella Hot Chocolate. I had never even thought of using Nutella to make hot chocolate!! That Martha is a genius, even if it did take an inordinate amount of time for her to see that Henry was crazy about her LOL.....

I tend to only eat Nutella one way - off the spoon! But this would taste nice.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge nutella fan but my granddaughter is so I always have some in the house. This was a good way to use it.
