Jalapeno Popper Pizza #BreadBakers

This Jalapeno Popper Pizza has all the flavors you love in the deep-fried appetizer in pizza form.  Fun as an appetizer but hearty enough for a meal.

Jalapeno Popper Pizza

The Bread Bakers are sharing Spicy Breads with Peppers today.....

Radha of Magical Ingredients is hosting this month and came up with this fun theme.  Let's see what everyone brought to share today.....

Pizza Oven

Amy and Doug gifted us an outdoor Pizza Oven for Christmas and I have been very anxious to use it.  It heats with pellets and gives the wood-fired pizza experience.  Please keep in mind that this was the first time I used it.  I expect that the pizzas will get more attractive with time.

Jalapeno Popper Pizza

The first problem I had was that my pizza peel was to large for the oven.  I have a new one ordered now but I tried to improvise using the back of a small baking pan.  It worked but part of the pizza flipped.  The pizza was still delicous, just not as attractive as it could have been and my pizza stone is a mess LOL.....

Jalapeno Popper Pizza Pin

I served these as an appetizer when some of the kids were over for dinner.  I made one with bacon and one without as some of the family choose not to eat meat.

It was a huge hit.  The only problem was that they enjoyed it so much they ate a lot of it and then didn't have much appetite for dinner.  I'm anxious to experiment with my new pizza oven but this will bake up just as well on the grill or in your indoor oven.

I decided to go with pizza for this challenge because I wanted to play with my new toy but I have made other breads that are spicy and contain peppers that you might enjoy like this Broccoli Bread containing crushed red pepper, or these Zucchini, Jalapeno and Corn Muffins.

Jalapeno Popper Pizza

This Jalapeno Popper Pizza has all the flavors you love in the deep-fried appetizer in pizza form. Fun as an appetizer but hearty enough for a meal.
Prep time: 10 MinCook time: 30 MinTotal time: 40 Min

Ingredients

  • 1 t. olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 t. cumin
  • 1/2 t. oregano
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 c. sour cream
  • 1 recipe pizza dough (my easy recipe)
  • 1 1/2 c. shredded colby jack cheese
  • 1/2-3/4 c. bacon bits, if desired
  • 4 jalapeno peppers, sliced into thin rings (seeded if you want less heat)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in large skillet over med-high heat. Add onions and garlic, season with cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook until translucent and tender.
  2. Add the cream cheese and cook, stirring until melted, stir in sour cream. Sauce should be of spreading consistency, if too thick add a bit more sour cream.
  3. Form your pizza dough into two rounds. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each. Top with half of the cheddar cheese, half of the bacon (if using) and half of the jalapeno slices.
  4. Bake in a preheated 400* oven for about 30 minutes, on a hot grill over indirect heat until crust is browned and toppings are melted, or following the directions of your pizza oven.
