It's time for Christmas Cookies Week......
Jolene of Jolene's Recipe Journal invited us to join her in sharing Cookie Recipes for our readers all week long. Five Glorious Days of Cookies and it all starts right now!!!
I am excited. I always find new cookie treats to make each year. Last year my friend, Colleen, shared a recipe for Sugar Plum Pinwheel Cookies and I fell in love. I had planned on making them right away but on the day after Thanksgiving 2022 I was out for my morning walk and got smashed by a Ford F250 pickup. There was no more baking going on in my household however I was blessed and fortunate enough to be out of the hospital and home in time to celebrate Christmas Dinner with my family.
So when Jolene announced Cookie Week 2023, I knew I would make these pinwheels. I made them my own by changing out the Plum jam for Yuletide Bliss Jam made by our son, Anthony. This was his featured jam for last year's holiday season. You can learn more and order his jams by going to his Facebook Page.
Before I share this recipe with you, let's take a look at what the others baked up to share today.....

I then cut each square so that it would have been an X had I cut all the way through leaving enough room to add a dollop of the Yuletide Bliss jam. Colleen has a nifty diagram in her post to help make the directions clear.
These cookies are not only gorgeous but they taste as good as they look. I took some with me over Thanksgiving to gift to our friends Keith and Kim and to our son Chuck. I also packaged some up for the freezer because it was too dangerous to leave them where I could grab one each time I walked by. They will grace several of my cookie trays and dessert buffets this Holiday season.
These cookies are a wonderful Christmas treat but they would also be a fun Summertime Cookie with the Pinwheel theme. You can use any jam you like in these cookies. I have a cupboard full of Tony's Sweet Eats jams that I can't wait to use in different variations, holidays, and seasons.

Yuletide Bliss Pinwheel Cookies
These fun little pinwheel cookies will surely be a hit this Christmas Season. Cream Cheese cookies with a dollop of jam in a whimsical form.
Prep time: 30 MinCook time: 15 MinTotal time: 45 Min
Ingredients
- 3 sticks butter, room temperature
- 8 oz. cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 t. vanilla
- pinch of salt
- 3 c. flour
- 1/2 pint jar of Yuletide Bliss jam (or your favorite jam)
- cold water
- sugar sprinkles
Instructions
- Cream the butter, cream cheese, sugar, and salt in the large bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment, until well combined. Add the vanilla and mix for another minute.
- Reduce the mixer speed to low and add the flour, one cup at a time, until incorporated.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and form it into a disc. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for an hour.
- Divide the chilled dough into 4 equal portions. Sprinkle your counter with flour and, using a floured rolling pin, roll a portion to a thickness of about 1/16" (about the thickness of pie dough). Cut the dough into 3x3" squares.
- Place the squares onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment or a silicone mat. Use a small, sharp knife to slice each corner towards the middle, leaving the center whole to hold the jam.
- Add a dollop of jam to the center of each and then fold one end of the corner into the middle. Continue around the cookie until all 4 corners meet in the middle and the cookie looks like a pinwheel.
- Dip your finger into some cold water and press where the cookies meet in the center to seal the dough, then sprinkle with colored sugar.
- Repeat until all the dough is used and placed onto cookie sheets.
- Bake in a preheated 350* oven for about 15 minutes, until golden brown.
- Cool for 5 minutes on the pan before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
