Turkey Burgers #FoodieExtravaganza

If you stay away from turkey burgers because you are afraid they will be dry and tasteless, fear no more.  This burger may actually beat out beef to become one of your favorites.

It is National Sandwich Month..........

I am hosting Foodie Extravaganza this month and asked our members to join me in celebrating National Sandwich Month.

It is no wonder we have a full month to celebrate sandwiches.  They are, in my opinion, the perfect food.  They can be served cold or hot.  They can be portable or require a knife and fork.  They can be eaten for breakfast like this burrito, lunch like this grilled cheddar, onion and tomato or for dinner like this burger I am sharing today.

Before we talk anymore, let's see what the others have cooked up for us........

Braaibroodjie - Grilled Cheese Sandwich From South Africa by Sneha's Recipe
Caprese Focaccia Sandwich by Caroline's Cooking
Italian Style Chicken Club Sandwiches with Pane al Latte by Karen's Kitchen Stories
Jolly Holiday Specialty Toasted Cheese Sandwich by Simply Inspired Meals
Spicy Chicken Tikka Rolls by Food Lust People Love
Turkey Burger by A Day in the Life on the Farm
Venezuelan Stuffed Arepas by Pandemonium Noshery

So many different options and each as awesome sounding as the next.  Heck, just with burgers you can eat for a month and never repeat yourself.  You can have a Fajita Burger for Mexican Monday, a Thai Burger on Tuesday and a Salmon Burger on Fish Friday.

Often times people shy away from burgers, the most perfect sandwich there is, because they have health concerns about consuming too much beef.  However there are plenty of other options for burgers.  You can make it vegetarian using portabella mushrooms or black beans.  You can make patties from fish and/or seafood.  You can use pork, turkey or chicken as an alternate for beef.  Many folks are afraid of turkey burgers because they can dry out and be pretty tasteless.

I am going to share this method, posted in the NY Times that will guarantee moist, juicy and flavorful turkey burgers every time.

If you stay away from turkey burgers because you are afraid they will be dry and tasteless, fear no more. This burger may actually beat out beef to become one of your favorites.

ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 1 small, sweet onion, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 T. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 T. ketchup
  • 2 T. dry bread crumbs
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 hamburger buns
  • Assorted Condiments and toppings, as desired

instructions:

How to cook Turkey Burgers

  1. Mix together the onions, garlic, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, ketchup, bread crumbs and turkey until well combined.  Form into 3 patties and grill over med high heat until an internal temperature of 165* is reached.
  2. Remove from grill, place on buns and pass the toppings and condiments

NOTES:

Adapted from a recipe found at the NY Times. You can omit the bread crumbs if cooking indoors in a skillet but for grilling you need the extra body so they don't fall apart.
