Bratwurst Burgers for New Beer's Eve #FoodieExtravaganza

Happy New Beer's Eve everyone.  Yes, evidently this is a thing and today is the day!!  I decided to celebrate with burgers made with beer brats and topped with beer braised veggies.  They were scrumptious!

Bratwurst Burgers

Crack a beer and come celebrate with us.......
I was so excited when I found out it was New Beer's Eve that I invited the members of Festive Foodies to join me in the celebration.  Let's take a look at what they brought to the table......
Beer Brats

As soon as the snow is gone and the weather starts to warm a bit, I start craving burgers on the grill.  In celebration of New Beer's Eve I mixed some beer brats with some ground beef.

burgers

I seasoned them simply with salt and pepper and handed them over to Frank, with some slices of Muenster cheese, to grill up while I started on the topping.

Beer Braised Vegetables

I sliced up some onions and peppers. Sauteed them for a couple of minutes in butter and then added some Guinness to the mixture.  I allowed it to come to a boil, then reduced the heat to a simmer and let it cook until all the beer was absorbed.

Beer Braised Vegetables

I set a platter of tomatoes and lettuce out along with the usual condiments.  I simply used the braised vegetables and a schmear of spicy mustard.  It was a wonderful meal.

If you are reading this early enough, light up the grill and invite some friends to help you celebrate.  Happy New Beer's Eve!!!

I most often cook with wine but beer works well too.  You might want to look at Mexican Beer Chili, Beer Braised Hot Dogs or these Drunken Pork Chops.

Prep time: 5 MinCook time: 20 MinTotal time: 25 Min

Ingredients

  • 1 T. butter
  • 1 sweet onion, sliced
  • 6-8 mini sweet peppers, assorted colors, sliced
  • 1 c. dark beer (I used Guinness)
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 links beer bratwurst, skins removed
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 5 slices cheese (I used Muenster)
  • 5 Hamburger Buns
  • Condiments of choice

Instructions

  1. Combine the bratwurst and ground beef. Shape into 5 patties of equal portions. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over med high heat. Add the onions and peppers. Cook for a few minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the beer to the vegetables and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are tender and beer is mostly gone.
  4. Place the burgers on a gas grill set to medium heat. Cook for 10 minutes. Flip the burgers and cook for another 6-8 minutes, until an internal temperature of 160* is reached. Lay a slice of cheese on each, close the lid and allow cheese to melt.
  5. Place the burgers onto the buns and top with the braised vegetables and desired condiments.
