In the Dominican Republic they call their burgers Chimichurri, not to be confused with the condiment served in Argentina. The name is the same but these burgers known casually as a Dominican Chimi Burger are all about the sauce and the toppings.
Each month, under the guidance and direction of Evelyne of CulturEatz we gather together to research and prepare foods from a different country. I love learning about a culture through it's foods and this is one of my favorite events each month.

So what makes these burgers special? It all about the sauce and the toppings!! This sauce is delicious. I made these burgers for family dinner one night. On Memorial day, I again had the family over and again put burgers on the grill. Our son in law eagerly went up to the buffet and then he turned to me and asked "where is the sauce"? He was very disappointed that I didn't replicate the recipe again.
I started with frozen hamburger patties. I buy them in bulk at Costco and keep them in my freezer all summer long. They are wonderful to have on hand because they can be put onto the grill frozen and you can take out as many as you need when unexpected guests come by to enjoy the weather and pool at our backyard oasis. I buy both beef patties and impossible burgers for those who abstain from meat.
I decided to grill my tomato and red onion along with the burgers and dressed the cabbage in a little of the sauce, allowing others to add more sauce as desired.

That sauce sounds so similar to an "orange sauce" that a local Mexican restaurant serves...and sells by the squeeze bottle!
