Turkey Trot Sandwich Board

The Sunday Funday Bloggers are sharing Charcuterie today......

Mayuri of Mayuri's Jikoni is hosting this week and asked us to share Charcuterie ideas.  Very timely as charcuterie is perfect for any gathering and tis the season for gatherings of all sorts.

This is such a fun topic and the possibilites are endless.  I love looking at all the creative ideas out there for Charcuterie and I had a good time trying to recreate some of the ideas...even if it didn't turn out as lovely as those AI generated photos that are out there making the rest of us feel imcompetent LOL.....

Sandwich Board

You can use all your favorite sandwich items for this board.  You could further decorate it with pickles, tomatoes, olives, etc....your imagination is your guide.  I kept mine simple as I was serving it at a CPL class and wasn't sure of the students likes and dislikes.

I used half of a pear for the head, olives for the eyes and piquillo pepper for the wattle.  I did line the platter with lettuce before adding the meats and cheeses for the body.

Prosciutto went on first, around the head, followed by havarti cheese, ham, colby jack cheese and turkey.  I served the condiments and several different bread choices on the side.

Prep time: 10 MinTotal time: 10 Min

Ingredients

  • Leaf lettuce
  • 1 pear
  • 1 black olive
  • 1 piquillo pepper
  • 3 oz. thinly sliced Prosciutto
  • 8-10. slices Havarti cheese
  • 8-10 slices deli ham
  • 8-10 slices colby jack cheese
  • 8-10 slices deli turkey breast

Instructions

  1. Line a round platter or board with the lettuce leaves in a semi circle. Cut the pear in half, lengthwise, and place one half flesh side down onto middle of the platter on the bottom. Eat the other half of the pear or save for another purpose.
  2. Surround the top, smaller, stem part of the pear with the prosciutto. Tuck the havarti underneath the prosciutto, going around from end to end. Follow this with the ham, again tucking and going end to end, continue with the colby jack and turkey, until the platter is filled and the pear head is surrounded.
  3. Use a sharp knife to remove any lettuce showing outside of the body of the turkey.
  4. Cut the ends off of a black olive and place onto the pear as eyes. Pop the middle of the olive into your mouth and enjoy. Cut a piece off of a jarred piquillo pepper and use it as a waddle. Enjoy the rest of the piquillo pepper.
  5. Serve with assorted breads and condiments.
