The Road and the Meals it Inspired #Movies&Munchies #Round-up

I think that I won, hands down, the award for finding a film with the most difficult foodie challenge in the history of Movies & Munchies and perhaps even our now-defunct Food n Flix group.

The Road

I asked the others to join me in reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy and then follow it up with the 2009 film of the same name.

Farm Life: Green Tomato Jam, Birthday Celebrations, The Weekly Menu

I recently put out a call to my neighbors for some green tomatoes so that I could make some Green Tomato Relish.  I was gifted over 15 lbs of green tomatoes.  I only needed 7 lbs for the relish so I decided to use some of the rest making this Green Tomato Jam.

Green Tomato Relish #SundayFunday

During harvest season, at least here in Michigan, there are loads of tomatoes ripe and juicy for the picking.  Farmers and home gardeners find that they have just as many green tomatoes as red.  This is a great recipe for using up some of those green tomatoes.

Marinated Venison Steaks #SundayFunday

Did you know that tomorrow is National Navajo Code Talkers Day?  I didn't either until my friend, Amy of Amy's Cooking Adventures, named it as the theme for this week's Sunday Funday.

Navajo Code Talkers Day, celebrated every year on August 14, is a day that holds great importance in the history of the U.S. This is because the day recognizes the contributions of Navajo marines during World War II. Yes, Navajo marines encoded and transmitted messages using a complex Navajo language-based code during a time when secret communication was essential to win a war. And guess what? The code was never broken by Japanese forces in the Pacific and proved to be of great assistance to the U.S. Marines. On this day, celebrate the great American heroes and their service to the nation!  (source: National Today)

PBJ and Gewurtz? Say What?!! #WinePW

I normally enjoy my PBJ sandwiches with a large glass of cold milk.  It had never occurred to me to have wine with my comforting, casual lunch.  But then Robin of Crushed Grape Chronicles invited the members of the Wine Pairing Weekend group to experiment with unusual white wine pairings.

Seychellois Pwason Griye #EattheWorld

From the Island of Seychelles comes a delicious dish, normally made with a whole fish, typically Red Snapper. I adapted the recipe using Mahi Mahi Fillets as that was what I had on hand.  They were wonderful and I look forward to finding a whole Red Snapper to make this again with the proper presentation.

Air Fryer Radishes and the Weekly Menu #ImprovCookingChallenge

My neighbor gifted me a huge sack of radishes from their garden.  I love radishes but the rest of my family isn't too crazy about them.  I decided to toss them in the air fryer and see how they turned out.  Oh, my word!!  The bite was gone and replaced by a mild sweetness that my family loved.

Coconut Banana Zucchini Bread #BreadBakers

I'm still working on using up all of the zucchini on my counter.  Today I am sharing a gluten-free recipe using coconut flour, coconut flakes, and zucchini sweetened only with a bit of honey and an over-ripe banana.  It is a great Day on the Farm when I can use up both zucchini and over-ripe bananas!!
