Happy October everyone. I am so happy to be celebrating Fall and preparing for Halloween. I know that I'm not alone because my friend, Amy of Amy's Cooking Adventures, announced that she wanted us all to revisit the Halloween classic "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" for our Movies and Munchies event this month.
This movie first came out in 1966. I was 8 years old. I watched it each year and when I had kids I watched it with them.
I have not watched it for many years now so when Amy chose it for this month Movies and Munchies I was happy to join in the fun. I had never watched the film with my foodie glasses on and I couldn't remember any food in the film so I kept my eyes open this time.
So, I remembered correctly. There is not much food in this film however there is a lot of food inspiration. We do see apples being bobbed for and candy being begged for with poor Charlie Brown only getting rocks. I thought about making some rock candy. I still think that's a good idea, but instead I drew my inspiration from a the Great Pumpkin himself.
I had been contacted by Adagio Teas and offered free samples of their Selefina Spices for sampling purposes. I had worked with Adagio Teas in the past and knew that I would be getting quality product that I would be happy to share with my readers.
I appreciated that Selefina allowed me to choose my own product from their small batch spices. Since Fall was in the air I, of course, asked to try their Pumpkin Pie Spice mix. I used this mix to make the pumpkin dip and then served it up with sliced apples as a further nod to the movie.
I have the Angel Face spending the night this week and I will turn this film on again for her. I'm not sure if she has seen it before but I want to make sure that she has this classic film in her memories.
