March has come to a close and so has our Off the Menu Movies and Munchies event. I think for the most part the group agreed that this was a fun and mindless little rom com. I know that they all agreed that there was tons of food inspiration to be had.

Coconut Madeleines inspired by Champagne Widows #WomenHistoryMonth
I am happy to be celebrating Women History Month with you. Many of my blog posts have focused on women in food, in wine, in books and in films. Today I am again honoring the women of history. I am making a recipe that was written by Ina Garten, a well known female chef, in what was once a male dominated field.
I was inspired to make these delicious little cake/cookies after reading an historical fiction novel written by a female author, Rebecca Rosenberg, featuring the Women of Champagne who kept the wine flowing during the reign of Napoleon.

South Australian Chardonnay with Pesto Bruschetta Chicken #WorldWineTravel
This dish reminds me of Spring for some reason. It is a scrumptious dinner that combines all the flavors of Bruschetta and Pesto without the carbs from the baguette. Of course, I paired mine with pasta but if you are watching your carbs it would be perfect with just a side salad and a glass of this crisp, amazing Punt Road Chard from South Australia.

Homemade Ranch Dressing and a Book Review #LitHappens
This herby, tangy buttermilk dressing takes only minutes to make, costs less than the bottled version and contains only ingredients that you can pronounce. This recipe gives you two cups of dressing that will be good for up to two weeks in the refrigerator. Or so they say....mine never lasts that long.
It is perfect for dressing salads, putting on sandwiches or dipping vegetables for a snack. I used some of this batch to cream some cucumbers and onions so I left it thick. Then I put it in the refrigerator and packed it in the Teen's lunchbox with carrot and celery sticks before adding a little more buttermilk to it for dressing a salad.

Syrniki #CooktheBooks
These Ukrainian Pancakes are a wonderful way to start the day topped with powdered sugar and a schmear of jam but they would be equally as good as a start to a dinner party topped with smoked salmon or a dollop of caviar.
I was inspired to make Syrniki after reading Red Sparrow by Jason Matthews.....
