If there is anything better than a ground beef patty cooked a perfect medium and topped with grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms and Swiss cheese I am not sure what it is.
I wait all winter long for the weather to break so I can put some burgers on the grill and celebrate Burger Month.........
Kita of Girl Carnivore hosts a month long party each year where we all share our favorite burger creations.
These are the bloggers participating this month. You can stop by and see what they made by searching #BurgerMonth on their blogs.
I participated in this event in 2018 and shared a Mexican Burger with you at that time. When Burger Month was announced this time, I had a hankering for a Mushroom Swiss Burger and decided to indulge myself.
While my husband grilled the burgers to a perfect medium, he also kept an eye on the onions that were sliced into 1/4" rounds and grilled to a golden brown. At the very end he added some swiss cheese and closed the lid of our gas grill to allow it to get all ooey, gooey and melty.
While he was watching the burgers, I was sauteing up some mixed mushrooms in butter and a dash of red wine. Frank brought in the burgers that he had placed on buns and topped with the onions. I piled on the mushrooms and dinner was served.

Mushroom Swiss Burgers
If there is anything better than a ground beef patty cooked a perfect medium and topped with grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms and Swiss cheese I am not sure what it is.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- Montreal Steak Seasoning, to taste
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 onion, cut into 1/4 " slices
- 1 T. olive oil
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 T. butter
- 8 oz. gourmet blend mushrooms, sliced
- salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
Instructions:
- Divide the burger into 4 (4 oz) portions and form into patties. Place onto a platter and season with Montreal Steak Seasoning. Let rest for 1/2 hour until room temperature.
- Place the sliced onion onto the platter, brush on both sides with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Place the cheese slices on the platter.
- Preheat a gas grill to med high heat. Send this platter and your sous chef out to the grill. If you are not lucky enough to have a sous chef, walk out to the grill yourself and place the burgers and onion slices onto the grate. Close the lid and cook for about 5 minutes, raise the lid, flip the burgers and onions. Cook for another 4-5 minutes with lid closed until onions are golden brown and the burgers reach an internal temperature of 140-145*,
- Remove onions back to the platter. Add the cheese slices to the burger, turn off grill, close lid and let the cheese melt, about 30 seconds. Remove burgers, tent with foil and let rest.
- Meanwhile, melt butter in a skillet over med high heat. Add the mushrooms, season with salt and pepper and cook, Stir occasionally, flipping the mushrooms to the other side until golden brown, tender and any liquid has evaporated, about 5-6 minutes.
- Place each burger on a bun and top with the grilled onions and sauteed mushrooms.
