One Skillet Sloppy Joe Pasta #NationalSloppyJoeDay

This simple and easy one pot pasta is perfect for the Sloppy Joe lovers in your household.  Two of our favorite dishes in one delicious meal.


It is National Sloppy Joe Day.......
Yep, Ashley of Cheese Curd in Paradise invited all of the Festive Foodies to join her in sharing Sloppy Joe recipes.   I had considered making Corned Beef Sloppy Joes as this event falls on the  day following St. Pat's when I served up my  BBQ Corned Beef with Whiskey Glaze.  I decided to use the leftovers in hash instead.  Stay tuned for those recipes.

  • We love Sloppy Joes and we love pasta so this dish was a win/win for the family.  It was a win/win/win for me because it is all made in one skillet so cleanup is easy peasy.



    I have shared a lot of Sloppy Joe recipes over the years.  There is my go to recipe that I make whenever I am serving a crowd.  I have turned them into tacos, and I have made them with duck.  I have tossed it with macaroni before but that was using leftover Sloppy Joe meat. It was delicious too but this recipe doesn't require leftovers.  It is an intentional pairing of Sloppy Joes and Pasta.

    One Skillet Sloppy Joe Pasta

    One Skillet Sloppy Joe Pasta

    This simple and easy one pot pasta is perfect for the Sloppy Joe lovers in your household. Two of our favorite dishes in one delicious meal.

    Ingredients:

    • 1/2 T. olive oil
    • 1/2 vidalia onion, diced
    • 1 lb. lean ground beef
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar
    • 2 T. tomato paste
    • 2 c. beef broth
    • 8 oz. small, sturdy pasta
    • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
    • 2 T. brown sugar
    • 1 T. Worcestershire sauce
    • Grated Colby Jack Cheese 

    Instructions:

    How to cook One Skillet Sloppy Joe Pasta

    1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over med high heat.  Add the onions and cook for a few minutes until they start to soften.  Add the garlic and ground beef.  Season with salt and pepper.  Cook, breaking up the ground beef with a wooden spoon, until browned.  
    2. Deglaze the pan with the vinegar, scraping up any browned bits stuck to the bottom.  Stir in the tomato paste.
    3. Add the beef broth and bring to a boil.  Add the pasta, cover and cook for 10 minutes, until most of the broth is absorbed.
    4. Stir in the tomato sauce, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.  Reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, until pasta is cooked to your liking.  This took about 5 minutes for the pasta I chose to use.  
    5. Pour into a serving bowl and sprinkle with the cheese.

    3. OK...Total comfort food here (which we all need a lot of right now). I have a "loose meat" recipe that feeds a TON and when I make it I always use the leftovers in chili. Thanks for making me aware of Sloppy Joe Day!

      1. Yes, I need to make another corned beef as soon as I am able to get my brother over for his birthday dinner and I think that is what I will do with any leftovers.

    9. Yumm! You are right - sloppy joe meat and pasta really are a wonderful pairing, sort of a variation on ghoulash (which I LOVE)! Yours looks cozy tucked in with that blanket of cheese! Yumm!!
