Celebrating #BacktoSchoolTreats with Chocolate Malt Waffles

I received product samples from sponsor companies to aid in the creation of the #BacktoSchoolTreats week recipes. All opinions are mine alone.

Wow, it is hard to believe that summer is nearly over and the school year is upon us. Here in Michigan the kids don't return to school until after Labor Day. In other parts of the country they are returning to school next month. There is a wonderful group of bloggers that are sharing #BacktoSchoolTreats all week long.

I am starting off with a wonderful, filling breakfast that your kids are sure to love. Chocolate malt Waffles studded with chocolate chips and sprinkled with powdered sugar. You can sit down and enjoy a family meal or, if your family is like mine, the kids can grab a waffle and eat while being driven to school. Either way, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that their stomachs are full and their brains are ready to soak in all the teachers have to offer.

Welcome to the first day of Back to School Treats Week.......

Summer is winding down, and we are celebrating with #BacktoSchoolTreats hosted by Terri from Love and Confections and Christie from A Kitchen Hoor's Adventures. All week-long 30 bloggers will be sharing 100+ fantastic recipes for both parents and kids, with breakfasts, snacks, desserts, and drinks to get you back in the school routine. Thank you sponsors for providing the prize packages. Don't forget to enter the giveaway below!

I decided to start the week off with a breakfast that is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters.  As we all know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day so I try to find a breakfast that the Teen will eat.  My Teen sleeps in until the last minute.  That makes this breakfast perfect.  The chocolaty, malty goodness does not require any syrup so it is the perfect grab and go meal.

I started these the day that I fed my sourdough starter.  I took the discard, added some flour, sugar and buttermilk and then left it on the counter overnight.  This is what I found the following morning.

In the morning, whisk together some cocoa, malted milk powder. baking powder, salt, cinnamon and sugar.  I used sugar provided from sponsor, Dixie Crystals

Combine the dry cocoa mixture to the wet sourdough mixture with the eggs, butter, vanilla and chocolate chips.  Heat up your waffle maker and cook per manufacturer's instructions.

Before we go on to my recipe and the fantastic giveaway, let's take a look at what the other bloggers are sharing today.
