A Sauvignon Gris from Bordeaux paired with a Chicken Stew from Zambia #Winophiles

When I purchased this bottle of Sauvignon Gris from Bordeaux, I had intended to pair it with the Crispy Salmon and Lentils that I made as our Welcome Home dinner on Friday.

Sauvignon Gris

But a couple of weeks before we left on our vacation I made this Zambian Chicken Stew and asked Frank to open a bottle of white for us to enjoy with it.  He went to the wine fridge while I was plating dinner and returned with the Sauvignon Gris.

It turned out well though as the wine paired very nicely with this dish.  Sauvignon Gris is a mutation of the Sauvignon Blanc grape.  It is grayish-pink in color and creates a full-bodied wine.  It was typically used as a blending grape in Bordeaux but recently has been featured on it's own.

This bottle was purchased from WSJ Wine Club.  Their description includes this paragraph:
"Wine-maker Jean-Marc Sauboua, an alumnus of Bordeaux's legendary Chateau Haut-Brion and a previous International Wine Challenge White Wine of the Year Trophy winner, is famously quality-obsessed.  To source the fruit for this premium white, he headed to Ludovic Roussillon's Chateau Le Coin, where low-yielding old vines help produce extra-concentrated flavors."
I paid $23 for this bottle which included free shipping as I am a WSJ Wine Club member.  This wine was citrusy and bright.  I look forward to ordering more bottles while it lasts.  I think it is going to make a perfect poolside sipper this summer.  I think it would pair very nicely with grilled fish, rotisserie chicken, vegetable-laden salads, and much of the fare that I enjoy eating and serving during the heat of the summer.

There is no chat being held this month but there are a lot of articles on some lovely wines made with Forgotten Grapes that I am sure you will enjoy learning about and seeking out so that you can taste.....
