Delight your Harry Potter fan or just your chocolate lover with these fun frogs that I was inspired to make after watching, for the umpteenth time, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
This was not my first choice of recipes. In fact, it's not really a recipe at all. Which is disappointing because there is so very much food to choose from in this film chosen by Tina of Squirrel Head Manor.
Food n Flix is a fun little group. One of us chooses a film each month and then we all watch it at our leisure any time during the month. The idea is to watch the films with your foodie glasses on and get inspired to cook up something and share it on your blog. Some films, like Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, have tons of food inspiration. Sometimes you really have to use your imagination. Either way it is a lot of fun and always interesting to see what everyone is inspired to make.
Back to the film. I'm not going to go through the entire movie as I'm sure that , like me, you have all seen the film at least once. I have seen it at least 10 times and I've read all the books as well. I love Harry Potter. I love the fight between good and evil. I love knowing that the good will always win in the end.
I had a lot of ideas about what I was going to make. I had even considered doing an entire Hogwartz Feast. Then, my wizard was out in his magical flying machine. Unfortunately, the magic stopped and the machine plummeted 100' to the ground.
That means most of my month was taken up with muggles stuff instead of wizarding stuff and I ran out of time to make anything magical for you this month.
Luckily, when my eldest kids were young I used to make a lot of candy so I have numerous candy molds in my collection including one of frogs (I also have spiders and lizards). My son went through a reptile stage LOL.
When Harry first meets Ronald and Hermione he buys them all treats on the Hogwartz train, including a chocolate frog that makes it's escape through the window. That was the inspiration for this treat I'm sharing today.
This is not the first time I have been inspired to make candy for Food n Flix. When we watched Hocus Pocus I made these Painted Chocolate Witch Suckers. That was another time that I was glad I held onto all of these candy molds. And I made these Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Eggs after watching A Walk in the Clouds.
Chocolate Frogs
Ingredients:
- 1 (8 ct) frog candy mold
- 12 oz. milk chocolate melting discs
- 2 t. canola oil
Instructions:
- Place the chocolate discs in a microwaveable bowl and heat at 30 second increments, stirring after each until chocolate is melted. Stir in the oil, 1 teaspoon at a time, using only enough to get the chocolate to the consistency you want to pour into the molds.
- Divide the chocolate between the molds, using a knife to smooth the bottoms.
- Place in the refrigerator or freezer until set. Remove from molds and trim any excess chocolate from sides.

ReplyDeleteHe is on the mend Debra. It's a miracle he is still alive, and another miracle that he is walking and the docs expect a 100% recovery. The fact that our Angel Face was unscathed is such a gift from God.
